Cruise Control

Is it normal for the cruise to take a while to set. When I get up to speed (75-80) and set the cruise, the light comes on but it takes a while before it finally engages, ~30seconds. Also, when I bump the speed up I have to hold the button down for it to accelerate instead of just pushing and releasing. Is all of that normal or do I have something getting worn out? First time riding a bike with cruise control so I don't know what's normal and what's not.

After many years mine began to do that also. Don't know why. But try this.

When setting the cruise, press "Set", then immediately press "Resume". It should hold right then without delay or dropping speed.

I bump mine to accelerate once and it goes up 1mph.

The cruise control on our bikes stink, like Rusty said hit set then resume I have to hit mine twice real quick after I hit set and it works. Another thing to check is you cable tension if it is too tight the cruise will act up.

Checking for play in the throttle cables, lubing them up periodically, check for binding and routing etc.. The double resume tap previously mentioned works nicely for a quicker on speed setting. If you find that cruise control disengages after hitting a sharp bump it usually indicates loose cables.. (based on experience...)

My cruise works just like a car does. Bump up or down 1 MPH. Perfect.

If there is a delay, check the cable at the vacuum pump under the left lower fairing.

If it's loose it will work but slow as it has to take up the slack.

I forgot that I had to also do that to mine a few years ago. I may need to check that again too.

Thanks guys, I figured that wasn't normal, just wasn't going to spend time trying to find a problem if there wasn't one.
