So I mounted my GPS today since the weather is terrible. The problem I am have is the plug won't stay in the 12v outlet in the fairing. Is this a common issue? fixes?

Thanks

Mine will work its way out. Not all the time kind of depends on roads. I did just replace my power cord to the mini USB type from the Garmin flat long looking one for the traffic pick up. The contacts underneath for that thing seem to get corroded and don't always charge. And I never find out until I really need it.

Some plugs are a little wider and some a little narrower. Try borrowing friend's cell phone car plugs and see if senate tighter. If so then buy many at business you can return the ones that don't fit. Or use tooth picks :-)

You can try to "expand" the side pieces of the plug your installing. The tooth picks will do about the same thing with no fuss though. I have thought about wiring in a fused direct wire, but have read you need to cut the voltage down to around 5v for most GPS. Garmin sells a wire you can "direct" power from. then plug end has a power reducer or whatever they call it built in. Something like this is required.

I got sick and tired of my cig plug working its way out. We have some really bad roads around here. I bought the Garmin hard wire kit and never had a power issue since. The Garmin wire dos have the voltage reducer built in just like the cig plug does.

DO NOT JUST CUT OFF THE CIG PLUG AND HARD WIRE IT, YOU WILL BE SHOPPING FOR A NEW GPS.
