midnightrider1300 Posted September 17, 2014 #1 Posted September 17, 2014 Apparently Avon makes 2 Avon Venom tires... http://www.bikebandit.com/tires-tubes/motorcycle-tires/avon-am42-venom-reinforced-motorcycle-tire http://www.bikebandit.com/tires-tubes/motorcycle-tires/avon-am42-venom-motorcycle-tire Now I'm assuming I'd want the reinforced tire .... But BikeBandit is the only site that shows the 2... thing is the reinforced tire is cheaper.... i guess it's on of those things that makes me go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....any thoughts on the 2 ?
kbran Posted September 17, 2014 #2 Posted September 17, 2014 The difference is in the speed rating. One is H rated the other is V rated.
midnightrider1300 Posted September 17, 2014 Author #3 Posted September 17, 2014 The difference is in the speed rating. One is H rated the other is V rated. then which tire do I need ? H or V
etcswjoe Posted September 17, 2014 #4 Posted September 17, 2014 Get the H it has a higher load limit.
midnightrider1300 Posted September 17, 2014 Author #5 Posted September 17, 2014 Get the H it has a higher load limit. what i thought ....i guess i just found it odd they advertise it as REINFORCED....
Sailor Posted September 17, 2014 #6 Posted September 17, 2014 My Madura would go 150 mph so I went for the higher speed rating.
Riderduke Posted September 18, 2014 #7 Posted September 18, 2014 I've never gad a problem with Avon Venoms for the past 100K...... I've always gotten "H" rated....
ricksbike Posted September 19, 2014 #8 Posted September 19, 2014 I`ve been running H rated venoms for about 8 or 9 years, this summer I thought I`d save a few bucks so I bought Conti-Milestone`s well that was a crappy idea, they wore out in 6500 miles so definitely going back to Avon Venoms, lesson learne:confused24::confused24:d,if you buy cheap you get cheap.

I"ve always run Dunlop E3 and have been really pleased, BUT it has gotten where I can't get them & when you do find them they are 20-$30 higher than AVON .... I put Avon venom on the rear of my 05 bike in April, I loved the ride but since i've sold that bike I don't know about the wear....I got 22k out of the last E3 ...
Illinois Posted September 19, 2014 #10 Posted September 19, 2014 Wore and handled well on a Valkyrie. Have a couple thou on em with the RSTD, still smiling.
aharbi Posted September 19, 2014 #11 Posted September 19, 2014 Love the Avons. I go for the increased load (H) as it is my two-up touring machine and heavy loaded. Besides the wife gets upset when I cruise at the 130mph speed rating of an H rated tire. So I figure the 149 mph rating of the V tire is just a waste
syscrusher Posted September 20, 2014 #12 Posted September 20, 2014 The only one I ever had or will started tearing at end of tread grooves. Every place there was an inlaid point or on some just plain inlaid corners it started to separate. I'm not chancing it again. I'd really hate having my front tire come apart on me when it wasn't even showing wear.

Bert2006 Posted September 20, 2014 #14 Posted September 20, 2014 Here are a few links that provide info on mc tires that some may find useful http://www.maxxis.com/sponsorship/motorcycle/motorcycle-tire-school#motorcycle_speed_ratings http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/379/749/Motorcycle-Article/Motorcycle-Tires-Product-Guide.aspx http://motorcycletirereviews.com/tires.html
syscrusher Posted September 20, 2014 #15 Posted September 20, 2014 I'm just curious.... was it a "V" rated or a "H" rated tire? It's trash, couldn't tell you now. Doesn't matter though I never exceeded the H rating much less the V.
Condor Posted September 20, 2014 #16 Posted September 20, 2014 The big difference between the two tires is the Reinforced is a Radial, and the other is a Biased Ply. I've always bought the Biased until switching to the E3....

Condor Posted September 20, 2014 #18 Posted September 20, 2014 I love the E3 but they are getting hard to find and when I do find one it's 20-$30 more than Avons.... I get mine from Jake Wilson in Utah. Free shipping and they seem to be about the same price.
