cowpuc Posted September 15, 2014 #3 Posted September 15, 2014 WOW BERT,,, WAYYYYYYYY COOL!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!! I am guessing FRANCE,,, only cause I see the word "Paris" in a picture.... Be interesting to know: -Price of bike rental (or did you ship your bike - cost of shipping if you did). -Difference in retail bike prices between here and there. -Did you have to get a French DL. -Did you stay in France or were you able to cross boundry's into other countries. -Do they have "campgrounds"/State Parks for tent camping. Really really neat you got to do that my friend,, you have my admiration and ENVY!! Puc

etcswjoe Posted September 15, 2014 #5 Posted September 15, 2014 I guess "In Jail" would not be an appropriate response?
Bert2006 Posted September 15, 2014 Author #6 Posted September 15, 2014 Alright, my wife and I did a 14 day bus tour of Europe. It was the trip of a lifetime. Itinerary was as follows: London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Heidelberg, Munich, Innsbruck, Venice, Rome, Florence, Lucerne and finally Paris. We were part of a group of 43 that included mostly Australian, but also 3 American couples, 1 South African couple and us as the only Canadians. What a great bunch of people. Most of the traveling was by coach, but we also used the high speed train between London and Brussels; had Diner Cruises on the Rhine River as well as through the canals of Amsterdam and Cruise tours on the Thames in London and the Seine in Paris. So to answer your questions Puc: I was not fortunate enough to be able actually ride when I was there. The agenda was simply too full with other stuff. Honestly, I would have been comfortable to ride on their highway's in the less congested areas, but certainly not in the larger cities as the traffic there is just crazy and there are no rules being followed. Lane splitting in Europe is the norm for bikes and in Rome and Paris they are simply CRAZY. I saw guy's do things on Goldwing's and Harley's in traffic that left me royally impressed but also thinking that one of these day's their luck will run out. I will say that they have balls and talent:bowdown: As for campgrounds and parks, I saw lots of camping areas, but nothing that looked like a park as we define it. I am sure they are there, but just did not see any. And tx2sturgis, I have attached the selfie in front of the Louvre:Laugh: Now, etcswjoe, the only thing that felt like jail was not being able to ride my bike for those 14 day's. I feel blessed that we had the opportunity to do this. Not sure if we will ever get back there, but this trip has helped us decide which countries we would return to and those are Italy and France. BTW, my wife's name is France so this was special for her. Also added some of the 6000 pictures I took from the trip. Cheers!
etcswjoe Posted September 15, 2014 #7 Posted September 15, 2014 Great pics, glad y'all had a good time even without the bike. Hope you stayed away from the brownies in Amsterdam.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted September 16, 2014 #8 Posted September 16, 2014 Way cool! How much does a trip like that cost? Airfair and bus...plus rooms I assume every night...hostels maybe?
Hummingbird Posted September 16, 2014 #9 Posted September 16, 2014 It looks like a Viking River cruise -awesome, awesome, awesome That's our next adventure, we've done 2 Mediterranean cruises but the river cruise has quite an appeal - Venice and Rome is our favorite places to see. Congrats on your tour and we both know it's a lifetime memory !!
Bert2006 Posted September 16, 2014 Author #10 Posted September 16, 2014 Great pics, glad y'all had a good time even without the bike. Hope you stayed away from the brownies in Amsterdam. We actually had a stroll through the Red Light District and it is more hyped up than it is in reality. Its all there, but I guess I am not as adventurous as I used to be On the brownies issue, all you had to do was walk the streets and you could get the benefit from second hand smoke, no brownies though:no-no-no:
Bert2006 Posted September 16, 2014 Author #11 Posted September 16, 2014 Way cool! How much does a trip like that cost? Airfair and bus...plus rooms I assume every night...hostels maybe? It was booked through Trafalgar Tours and all was included with the exeption of a few meals, they call it the ''European Whirl''. On the issue of cost...well...once you include airfare, incidentals, tips and souvenirs, I could have probably upgraded to a brand new 2nd gen for the cost of it....a bit pricey...but memories that we will keep forever. The exchange on the Euro is about 70c on the dollar when you start with Canadian money.
