MikeWa Posted September 13, 2014 #1 Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) Perception can be strange indeed. My 08 Venture went the way of other salvage bikes. Whatever that is, she is gone. My new to me 2010 seems to lean a bit more on the side stand. I checked the bolts and everything looks to be ok. Sometimes the bike just seems to lean a bit more than the 08 did. Of course I no longer have the 08 for comparison. Then when turning or cornering the 10, it seems to need to lean a lot more than the 08 did. If not downright scary this at least got my full attention. I have checked for level links, tire size, air pressure, ground clearance and air in the shocks. These all check normal. Both bikes had / have D404 tires. The only difference I have found is the grips on the 2010 have been changed to a heated grip. One without the end weights. This makes the handlebar look and feel shorter and narrower. So could this excessive leaning be all in my mind? Just an illusion caused by the handlebar grips? Could it be a perception aggravated by the odd way my shoulder healed after my accident? Or could there be that much difference in the handling of two of the same bike? wrenchrob Posted September 13, 2014 #2 Posted September 13, 2014 We're the forks slid up the triple tree or springs weak in the 08?
The Tooch Posted September 13, 2014 #3 Posted September 13, 2014 OR Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas.
MikeWa Posted September 13, 2014 Author #4 Posted September 13, 2014 We're the forks slid up the triple tree or springs weak in the 08? No she was stock. Mike
etcswjoe Posted September 13, 2014 #5 Posted September 13, 2014 I thought my new to me bike was leaning more and it turned out to be my rotator cuff.
cowpuc Posted September 13, 2014 #6 Posted September 13, 2014 Check the kickstand for looseness where it pivots at the frame Mike. I have noticed that play in that joint can equal a lot of extra lean when on the stand. Be aware that if you try and tighten it with the bolt going thru the stand that this bolt shoulders against the inner stand journal and WILL break fairly easily at the shoulder! I have used a shim between the head of the bolt and the outside of the stand to pull the journal back to new spec. If the hole thru the stand iss oblonged you will have to buy new or fill with weld and redrill.. Also, dont forget that there is a big difference in them if one had progressives and one didnt. Or even in preload on the progressives. That can and will make a big difference in handling too! Congrats on the new bike brother! Puc from my tablet so forgive me for typos!
MikeWa Posted September 13, 2014 Author #7 Posted September 13, 2014 I thought my new to me bike was leaning more and it turned out to be my rotator cuff. It could be something like that. Since my accident my right shoulder is now three inches lower than my left. But the perception to me is the bike requires leaning much more on turns.
cowpuc Posted September 13, 2014 #8 Posted September 13, 2014 I thought my new to me bike was leaning more and it turned out to be my rotator cuff. Owe Joe,, that makes my shoulder hurt just reading! Just occurred to me,,,, I had the same kinda stuff going though and found out it was actually the pain killers in my case that were causing an optical dillusion LOL:rotf:a
etcswjoe Posted September 13, 2014 #9 Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) Have someone else ride your bike and see, that's how I figured out it was me and not the bike. I have two Ventures and both set differently on the kickstand, Edited September 14, 2014 by etcswjoe
MikeWa Posted September 13, 2014 Author #10 Posted September 13, 2014 Have someone else right your bike and see, that's how I figured out it was me and not the bike. I have two Ventures and both set differently on the kickstand, Well that answers that part of the question. Mike
crowrod Posted September 13, 2014 #11 Posted September 13, 2014 There is a bushing in the side stand that will wear and the bike will lean more. I changed mine and it took quite a bit of the angle out,not to hard to replace and I think the cost was about $7.00 dollars:080402gudl_prv:
