Raider58 Posted September 13, 2014 #1 Posted September 13, 2014 I went out to take a ride on my 06 venture today and it had a hard time starting, then just quit. Tried it again then it wouldn't run at all. Then it occurred to me that there was no fuel pump noise that I was accustomed to. Just like that one day it ran great the next day nothing. So I took it out and the contacts are fried. I decided that instead of rebuilding an 8 year old pump to just get a new one. I ordered the facet should be here in a couple of days. Does anyone have any experience in putting these in? I'm sure I can figure out out, but would be nice if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks if you do.
djh3 Posted September 13, 2014 #2 Posted September 13, 2014 While not the facet, the Mr Gasket I put in is almost the same size. So here is a write up I did and directions. I think the adapters and elbows may even work for you. The facet you shouldn't have to trim off the plastic outer part like I did with the Mr Gasket.
rougeray Posted September 13, 2014 #3 Posted September 13, 2014 Try this. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=836773#post836773 I recommend replacing the points. Regardless get the pump that shuts off the flow of fuel when bike is turned off. BTW you can ride the bike without a pump if you bypass it and keep the tank full. When gravity/head pressure will no longer provide enough fuel I don't know but that's easily found out with a spare tank of fuel on board. Remember to shut off the fuel when the bike is not running.
djh3 Posted September 13, 2014 #4 Posted September 13, 2014 You can probably disconnect the vent hose and put a longer one on and blow in it to pressurize it too, that would force fuel. But I don't think that's fun either.

It sure as heck beats trying to push one of these great big loaded down camels uphill on a two track out of a canyon when its 106 degrees:backinmyday:
djh3 Posted September 14, 2014 #6 Posted September 14, 2014 I had a Master Sgt I worked for in the USAF. He was coming back from leave and had a big ole Ford Galaxy or something. the fuel pump quite on him in the middle of the night. So he rigs up the gas tank to pressurize off a hose and blows in it to get the gas up to carb. Starts car and drives, sticking the hose out the window so the air rushing by goes in the hose. So as long as the car is moving it has pressure in tank. LOL I thought the guy was a freakin genius.

Much the same thing that happened to me on the '07. One day it ran fine and the next it ran like crap or not at all. I went ahead and replaced it with an OEM But I'm ready for the next one. First I picked up a cheap fuel pump with the mount off eBay, and then a set of points last week... When the points arrived I noticed they were made in Japan. So now I have a spare, and it's a piece of cake to R&R the pump. The points ran $30 bucks on my doorstep. A heck of a lot cheaper than a new OEM... And it ain't that hard to change the points.
Raider58 Posted September 14, 2014 Author #8 Posted September 14, 2014 Thanks for the replies. The facet I bought has the shut off and check valve and cost only $65 bucks. I guess when it comes I'll figure out what I have to rig up. But I'm sure it will work fine. Anyway thanks again.
djh3 Posted September 14, 2014 #9 Posted September 14, 2014 I sent the link for most of the elbows and stuff. It was pretty straight forward. Mine came with a Ford type carb fuel filter the screwed in, which I don't think the facett will. But other than that once you get the other out you'll see its pretty easy.
