cheny Posted September 10, 2014 #1 Posted September 10, 2014 anyone using the evens engine coolant? Wayne
ACE50 Posted September 10, 2014 #2 Posted September 10, 2014 No, and really don't see the need at that price. Amsoil brand good for 7 yrs or 100K. Some pics they show are like if someone used just plain water.
Flyinfool Posted September 10, 2014 #3 Posted September 10, 2014 Just how expensive is it? They are real careful to not mention price on their website even with the bright red "Order Here" tab, which only tells me that there is not a dealer within 300 miles of me. And how much is the conversion fluid that you have to run thru first?
djh3 Posted September 10, 2014 #4 Posted September 10, 2014 Couple of the ads I saw were, $32 for the flush and $39 or there bouts for 1/2 gal of fluid. Better be dang good stuff.
Flyinfool Posted September 10, 2014 #5 Posted September 10, 2014 So around $426 to put it in my truck!!!! It better be better than good stuff. The stuff in there now is already good.
djh3 Posted September 10, 2014 #6 Posted September 10, 2014 there comes a point where it just aint worth it. Ya know what I mean? Even if say it gave you 5% better fuel milage, how ling would it take to pay for itself and then start making it pay for changing? Kind of like these hybrid cars. They are 4K more that a normal car of same model and the figures are something like you would have to be me like me and keep something 15yr to make it worth it. I have however thought about putting the ICE stuff in the vehicles.
Flyinfool Posted September 10, 2014 #7 Posted September 10, 2014 On their website it states that the fuel savings are only due to putting in a higher temp switch for the radiator fan so that the fan is drawing power less often. Our cooling fans never run at speed so there would be zero savings on MPG. Diesel trucks on the other hand spend a lot of time idling and running the fan.
djh3 Posted September 11, 2014 #8 Posted September 11, 2014 Dont know. My 96 cummins once up to temp goes between like 190 and 140 or something. Its wilde. you can watch the temp gauge go up and down. Its a mechanical fan by the way.
icebrrg3rd Posted September 11, 2014 #9 Posted September 11, 2014 I think the savings comes in the way of not having to replace parts as much. Like not having water in the system to corrode metal parts, or that it's a low-pressure system and the hoses and gaskets won't be under pressure and stretch/blow/leak. They also say that you just drain and re-use it when doing maint on the vehicle, so you're not buying new stuff. That's my take on it. -Andrew
