Freebird Posted August 25, 2014 #1 Posted August 25, 2014 Well after not being able to get away and make it to the NY Rally, Eileen and I decided that we HAD to get away for a few days. We hopped on the bike and rode down to Hilton Head for a few days. Will be here until next Saturday. Doesn't look like we have any members here on the island but would be nice to meet you if you are. Took it nice and easy on the way down. Only about 800 miles but we made it a two day ride. Got a couple hundred miles of rain and then it got VERY hot for the last part of the trip but it is all good. The Road Glide did just fine. Gas mileage comparable to the RSV. Riding two up, pulling the Bushtec which is pretty heavily loaded and a fair amount of hills, averaged about 38 MPG running between 75 and 80 most of the time.
crowrod Posted August 25, 2014 #2 Posted August 25, 2014 I thought they did not allow motorcycles in the plantations.?????? I would rode there a long time ago!!!!!! what part of the island are you on?
Freebird Posted August 25, 2014 Author #3 Posted August 25, 2014 No problem riding the bike to and on the island. There are a lot of private residential areas on the island where motorcycles are not allowed but no problem on the island in general. As far as what part we are on? Heck I don't know. South? Just off South Forest Beach Drive.

Ben Rollins Posted August 25, 2014 #6 Posted August 25, 2014 If you get a chance ride over to Beaufort, maybe 30 miles away and a really nice town. we spend a week every summer there. Luthers on Bay street is a good place to eat.
mini-muffin Posted August 25, 2014 #7 Posted August 25, 2014 Enjoy the quiet time Don. Have fun just you and Eileen. Margaret
IronMike Posted August 26, 2014 #8 Posted August 26, 2014 I would have stopped in to meet up. But my THIRD Vacation with a RSV is canceled as I sit home and wonder why it runs like crap in the low band. I cant stand riding it. Its like I have to hot rod it everywhere and pulling the trailer or cruising highway speeds is impossible. Going in the shop here in two days, I only have 15K available on my Discover. Hope it covers it. I should have bought a hitch for the Roadstar. Looks like you have great weather though. I planned the vacation at the right time. But then I planned on having the bike running right. My eyes are not good enough to work on it no more. Catch Skyline on the way back up. If I get this thing running maybe I should sell it or trade it on a Wing.
Freebird Posted August 26, 2014 Author #9 Posted August 26, 2014 Pictures? Sorry...I had no idea that there are rules here. Whoever heard of such a thing. OK....will try to take some...sometime. Joe, we are hear until Saturday. If you get down this way give me a shout.
Marcarl Posted August 26, 2014 #10 Posted August 26, 2014 Good to hear you two took some time together. Now if you would have come to Ontario instead, you could have enjoyed real company or absolute solitude,,, your choice! maybe we could even have bought you some lunch,,,, oh well, enjoy anyways! And oh,,,,,, we need some pictures,,,,, outside only please.

Just off South Forest Beach Drive.Your probably near sea pines which is on the toe end of the island. They are pretty picky down there. Years ago I drug my boat down to my sisters place in Port Royal and I was made to store the boat off the island in a storage facility. They didn't want the boat in view on the island.

Freebird Posted August 26, 2014 Author #16 Posted August 26, 2014 Looking forward to it Joe. Dinner or whatever you have in mind is fine with us. Bob, yes, we are maybe a half mile from the Sea Pines entrance. No motorcycles allowed. We have a Sunset Dinner Cruise on Thursday evening that departs from Harbour Town inside Sea Pines and will have to take a taxi. I wonder if you pulled up to that gate in a Slingshot if they would let you through?
Freebird Posted August 27, 2014 Author #17 Posted August 27, 2014 OK...just a couple of quick pictures. Bike parked at hotel on the way down and a couple at a small marina on the island.
Marcarl Posted August 27, 2014 #18 Posted August 27, 2014 OK we'll let you stay now,,,, thanks for the pictures.:happy65:

etcswjoe Posted August 30, 2014 #22 Posted August 30, 2014 Had a great visit with the Boss and his lovely bride, made it home last night about 0130.
Freebird Posted August 30, 2014 Author #23 Posted August 30, 2014 We had a great time with the two of you. Got away about 7:00 this morning and rode approximately 400 miles to Beckley, WV. We are settled in here for the night and then 300 and some odd miles home tomorrow. Humidity at Hilton Head when we left this morning was 100%. Other than that, we've had great weather.
dogman Posted September 1, 2014 #24 Posted September 1, 2014 Good to hear that the two of you where able to break away. Sounds like you had a great time and nice that you where able to go on your Harley.
