Does your wife have a diamond engagement ring, and did she hand-wash the glass at one point w/o removing said ring? One full swipe around and you've just scribed a break line, and a simple shock would have caused it to cleanly break.

My sister-in-law, rest her soul, had similar to several glasses.

They had rings around the inside,,, but did not fall apart.

 

BECAUSE,,,, she washed dishes with her diamond ring on.

Any chance of that?

Okay, I second the diamond cut.

 

You may have to consider either divorce or a electric dishwasher to get past this. The dishwasher is cheaper.

A great hypothesis to be sure, but the wife just sticks everything in the dishwasher, and it's not that often that I see her wearing the ring anyway.
