Bubber Posted August 16, 2014 #1 Posted August 16, 2014 OK I am convinced that the fuel pump points are bad, where can I get a replacement set? From who? Has anybody replaced them? I am sure I saw something on here about it. But I can't find it, at least what I thought I was looking for. Help somebody! Thanks Bubber

Prairiehammer Posted August 16, 2014 #3 Posted August 16, 2014 Steve, If your points still have some 'meat' left, try taking your 'point file' (you have one from the good ole days, right?) and cleaning up the points on the fuel pump. Same principle as the points on a distributor; the points become pitted, increasing the arcing, that increases the pitting, that...well you get it.
Nemo Posted August 17, 2014 #4 Posted August 17, 2014 My many thanks to Bubber for starting the thread about fuel pumps, and all of you others who chimed in. I replaced that expensive fuel pump last year. With the advice offered today about the point switch kit, I ordered one and will rebuild this pump for the future.
naturbar Posted August 17, 2014 #5 Posted August 17, 2014 Here is a link to my post when I replaced my points....hope it's helpful..... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=80742
djh3 Posted August 17, 2014 #6 Posted August 17, 2014 In the tech section is a write up on swap to a Mr Gasket pump. Then you wont have to worry about fuel pump. Cost is almost same as replacing just points. I did it for under $50. The points will run almost $40 if I remember rite.
Bubber Posted August 17, 2014 Author #7 Posted August 17, 2014 I will be looking at the points tomorrow and then I will decide to order or not. Thanks for all the great info. Bubber
Holly Posted August 17, 2014 #8 Posted August 17, 2014 my pump died last summer, replaced with an aftermarket pump, took about an hour time and $50 parts, pump and filter included, had a few times the bike just quit going down the hiway before it completely died, haven't had a problem since
