Condor Posted August 14, 2014 #1 Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) Ok the kid is back in school and I finally have time to wrench on the '99. She's been sitting for way too long with all the parts sitting in the wings ready to go. It's been over two years of her needing a complete fuel delivery transplant due to neglect and health issues. So after pulling the carbs, I found I had to replace them as the OEM's where toast. When I pulled them I had to cut what looked like a vacuum hose going down to the smog valve located on the frame down by the horn. Figured I'd go ahead and cap the valve when the time came. So I get this nice set of carbs from Pinwall, and #1 it isn't plumbed for the hose, and #2 out of the sensor plugs... carb heater and throttle position... the position fits but the heater is another type that's on the '99. From the condition of the carbs I'm assuming they came off a later model 2ndGen. My Question is... sorry it's taken me so long to get here.... Do later model carbs, which are not destined for California come with out fuel recovery plumbing??? And also after checking the oem heater plug I have a choice... cut and splice the oem plug onto the newer heater lead.., or remove the entire heater loom and put it on the new carb set.... or just leave it unplugged as some of the members have done??? Whatcha think?? Edited August 14, 2014 by Condor
Condor Posted August 15, 2014 Author #2 Posted August 15, 2014 This has to be some sort of record. Asked for an opinion and 24 hours later not one post. Usually this is like tossing a chunk of raw meat to a pack of rabid dogs. 74 views and there should be at least 85 opinions. Maybe Puc was right???
Neil86 Posted August 15, 2014 #3 Posted August 15, 2014 Condor.... On my 49 state 99 (I imported it to Canada) the left bowl vents tee together, the right bowl vents tee together and the 2 hoses run forward to the lower cowling (fwd of air box) on each side to disperse the fumes.
Carbon_One Posted August 15, 2014 #4 Posted August 15, 2014 Can't be of much help on this but I'd go with whatever would be the easiest way to configure the system. And probably keep the heaters or at least leave em in place for easy hookup later. Of course where you live you'd probably never need them

Thanks for the reply Neil. So I take it your '99 did not have the fuel recovery valve smog stuff like the Ca.USA models, and the carb set I picked up may very well be off a low mile non/ca-'99... or later. The new set does have the same set up, but nothing going off the back to the valve... Looks like it may be time to remove the valve and start capping things off...???

I may just cut the plug off the old set of carbs and zip tie it to the new lead. Then if someone want's to hook the heater back up they can figure it out...
Neil86 Posted August 15, 2014 #7 Posted August 15, 2014 All mine has is the AIS for the exhaust...nothing for tank or float bowl vapour recovery. Make sure the vent hoses go to "still" air...so carb bowl is at atmospheric pressure.
