rbig1 Posted August 13, 2014 #1 Posted August 13, 2014 well ordered a fuel pump. took two days. went to pick it up they forgot to order it. ordered it again. two more days. woops sent it to wrong store. that's your local o o store for ya. take two more days. checked all other parts houses in area. only place local that could find right pic of one. all others want to sell straight through design. called local yama shop no one in usa has one but japan had 4 for 375. each. so do I wait two more days or order off of internet today and have it in two days. also in the tec section fuel filter 33011. had one on bike leaking where glued together. yama shop sold me a aftermarket filter for 4.95 its thick plastic and has a metal band on seam. cant run bike till I have enough fuel to keep up with draw. dies and fuel pump is hammering but not pumping enough flow to keep up.
slowrollwv Posted August 13, 2014 #2 Posted August 13, 2014 If mine goes out I will go to Advanced Auto and get a fuel pump and use longer fuel line to put in behind the stock horn, there is plenty room there for a fuel pump on my Venture.
ACE50 Posted August 13, 2014 #3 Posted August 13, 2014 Do the first gen's have point contacts like the 2nd gen on the pump? That's an easy fix.
Monty Posted August 13, 2014 #5 Posted August 13, 2014 He said it was hammering, but weak, so the contacts would be ok. Only need them for supplying the 12v to the pump.
Neil86 Posted August 13, 2014 #6 Posted August 13, 2014 Sometimes hammering is from vapour bubbles in the fuel.....no issues on the suction line leaking air?
rbig1 Posted August 13, 2014 Author #7 Posted August 13, 2014 never thought about hole in fuel line. hole in filter would do same thing. well just came in from changing fuel valve and filter same problem. no pressure after pump just atmosphere flow. I forgot to say ordered Honda civic pump looks the same if I remember tec write up says a little bigger around. some one figured this out before. hope it worked for them. been in this site for a long time. at least I can shut off fuel now. why plastic knob??? going to have to make a tool for on off turning or this one will end up the same. and on another note they had a pole and asked if anyone had reserve on bike. well it turns out I don't just cant read. it said fuel not res. could be glasses or big dummy wearing them. what is your vote... on second thought. took pump apart clean inside so that little diaphragm gave up probably. I ordered pump online one will surely show up .
rbig1 Posted August 13, 2014 Author #8 Posted August 13, 2014 well ordered pump from partsgeek total of 46.58 they had 8 in stock and that included shipping. that's cheaper than oo I messed -up. hope it works just got rid of all old parts from cars.
djh3 Posted August 13, 2014 #9 Posted August 13, 2014 I dont know if our replacement pump for 2nd gens will work on the 1st gen. but if it will I did a write up and its in the tech section on how to use a Mr Gasket pump that all in about $50 pump, fittings and all.
rbig1 Posted August 14, 2014 Author #10 Posted August 14, 2014 those are fuel inj bikes . or am I wrong
Neil86 Posted August 14, 2014 #11 Posted August 14, 2014 No, the 2nd gen uses carbs and a fuel pump too.
midnightrider1300 Posted August 14, 2014 #12 Posted August 14, 2014 I got a mr gasket for the old bike, did a few mod's on it but worked great and never had any over flow .. $29.95 vs $300 + ...no brainier...
mm482 Posted August 14, 2014 #13 Posted August 14, 2014 I have been running the mr gasket pump on my 07 RSV for about 4,000 miles and all is well so far. Earl
vzuden Posted August 15, 2014 #14 Posted August 15, 2014 30,000+ on a MR Gasket. Just have to be sure to turn fuel off every time
