mini-muffin Posted August 12, 2014 #2 Posted August 12, 2014 Welcome to the family. How old are the kids? I'm sure someone will get up with you about your bike. We didn't have our annual maintenance day in Ohio this year, but we most likely will next year. If we do make sure you head over. You can bring the family,it's pretty kid friendly. Some of our members are kids mentally that is. Hope you enjoy the site. Margaret
Walnutz Posted August 12, 2014 Author #3 Posted August 12, 2014 cool my kids are 15 11 10 7 lol my lotto numbers are you in Ohio??? or just travel there? to the event? I hope I do get help....I mean I did pay for a membership ....so I kind of expect more help here than at my hondachopper.com site which is free and they have helped sync my 750 carbs and mailed me a bunch of stuff and have became a part of my family..so if I get that for free I cant wait to see what I get with a pay site....
steamer Posted August 12, 2014 #5 Posted August 12, 2014 You didn't say what you are riding. Is it a first gen or 2nd gen? Or something else? Welcome to the funny farm.

Walnutz Posted August 13, 2014 Author #9 Posted August 13, 2014 so does any one want to help me by syncing my carbs and maybe telling me where a good place to get gasket kits are?
Freebird Posted August 13, 2014 #10 Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) I tell you, I'm not sure that you are coming across the way that you may mean to. Then again, maybe you are. I'm not sure. I know that you have been a member here for what...a day...and you are saying things like "I paid for a membership so I expect......" The people here are fantastic and in fairly short order many people become great friends. They go out of their way to help one another NOT because somebody paid 12.00 but because they like being there when somebody is in need. You seem way too demanding for somebody who just joined, has given nobody a chance to get to know you at all and immediately seem to think that you are entitled to immediate attention. Most people at least start off by offering to be the one that travels to where the help is or even meet somebody half way. If you feel that you have paid for somebody to drop what they are doing and immediately head to your house to work on your bike, you really have the wrong idea. If that is the case, just let me know and I'll refund your membership fees and remove your profile. Edited August 13, 2014 by Freebird

Man did I see that coming Walnutz,, I was in the process of writing a response to your initial post and than noticed the post to which Freebird is referring to and stopped the process to see where this thread was going... I encourage you to please read carefully what Freebird is saying, consider that most folks on here are very hard working folks (or retired) from many walks of life who really DO have a LOT to offer but those offerings come about by "freewill" graciousness and love for their fellow man, not as a result of money being paid.. Please reread your first thread here and see if you can pick up on what Freebird is trying to do for you.. I promise, if you can get what he is talking about, work it out and you stick around you WILL be a better man and we will have a better site!! Think about it.. Puc

Freebird Posted August 13, 2014 #13 Posted August 13, 2014 Try this thread for a little help with the charging system. If that doesn't answer your question, you can find a lot of other related threads by clicking on "Search" in the upper menu bar and then at the bottom of the drop down menu, use the "Google" search and select the "venture rider" radio button. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37884

Walnutz Posted August 13, 2014 Author #18 Posted August 13, 2014 You say you are looking for a gasket kit. What kind of gasket kit? Are you talking about the carbs? motor\trans kit I am looking for it all... yes maybe down the road I will also want a carb kit with all the trimmings...I am used to four carbs just not like these.....
Freebird Posted August 13, 2014 #19 Posted August 13, 2014 You say gasket KIT and there are a lot of gaskets. If you truly want the entire kit, here is a listing on Ebay that might help. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Complete-Engine-Gasket-Kit-Yamaha-V-Max-1200-Venture-Head-Set-Kit-Motor-Rebuild-/400527521403?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d414cf67b&vxp=mtr I'm sure you don't need them all though. There are probably some first gen riders here who can chime in and tell you where to buy individual gaskets. For the record, we call the 1983 - 1993 Venture "First Gen" and the '99 and newer "Second Gen".
Neil86 Posted August 13, 2014 #20 Posted August 13, 2014 Walnutz... okay manometers measure engine vacuum using columns of liquid. Alternate is carbtune or set of 4 vacuum gauges. Do you have any equipment for measuring vacuum on 4 individual carbs. Regarding oil leak on rear cylinder....if its from the valve cover its a pretty common repair....the gasket edges crack with heat and age and seep.

Walnuts I am curious to know if you are reading the replies to your requests? Several people have offered links to help and also asking questions about what tools and equipment you have at your disposal. IMHO joining this site ( i.e. paying your dues) entitles you and me to participate in all member areas....however becoming one of the family has nothing to do with the $12.00 subscription fee. Becoming family is a relationship based upon my factors. I encourage you to take some time to foster those relationships and you may be surprised at the benefits. Best of luck on your new (to you) Yamaha.

cowpuc Posted August 13, 2014 #24 Posted August 13, 2014 Wal, I LOVE those old 750 Hondas and have been around them quite a bit.. When the guys from Hondachopper.com helped you with the carb syncing on your Honda did they provide the instrument to do the sync with or do you have the tools? Also, do you have an ohm meter at your disposal?
Freebird Posted August 13, 2014 #25 Posted August 13, 2014 If your donor motor is also an 83 or an 83 - mid 85, it will eventually lose 2nd gear as well. You don't want to just swap parts or you will be doing it again. Here is an article that gives you an overview of what you are looking at. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=508 You will need to replace the same parts regardless of which transmission you use.
