If you can't see through your clutch and brake sight gauges you may want to consider replacing them. I couldn't see through mine and while away my clutch master cylinder leaked on and ruined the fairing. I was gone 10 days and the damage is pretty bad. I was already going to replace them, the replacements arrived the day I left, and I figured I'd do it when I got back. :shock3:

Brake fluid is some nasty stuff.

It is really difficult to repair the damage that it does. The damage just keeps spreading even after you think you have cleaned it all up.

I ordered mine from the resident seller on the XJ bikes forum. I ordered this item number from him. They fit perfectly on my 86 VR.

HCP3120 Aftermarket black GASKET MAKER, 3.8 ounce squeeze tube. Enough to do about ten thousand sight glasses! But it's the smallest size offered. I'm sure it works well in other applications. Each: $ 8.95

Sorry I didn't post complete listing this is what I ordered and it fit my 86 VR clutch and brake master cylinders.

HCP1074 Aftermarket front brake master cylinder glass brake fluid level SIGHT WINDOW, correct size and thickness crystal-clear mineral glass. NOTE: fits all Style A front master cylinders that have a pressed-in original sight window, and all XJ1100 rear master cylinder fluid reservoirs. Does NOT fit original master cylinders that have an o-ring and c-clip retained sight window. Each:

$ 9.95

You may or may not need to replace this part. Don't think i did get this part.

HCP17201 Aftermarket sight window O-RING. For use ONLY with original master cylinders that use a pressed-in plastic sight window. This is the o-ring that seals the sight window bushing to the inside of the master cylinder body. If your master cylinder is leaking or weeping fluid from the sight glass area, this is what you need to replace. Good idea to replace this item as a precaution during a master cylinder rebuild, but, you must remove the original sight window to access it (which typically destroys the original sight window!).

$ 2.95

I used black sealant to put them in.
