My New To Me Trailer.

I recently purchased a trailer to haul my Kubota tractor. I would like to also be able to haul a vehicle.

 

The issue is that the trailer bed is 2 foot tall and the built in ramp is only 5 ft long. The ramps are just too short for a vehicle.

 

My question is what length of a beam would I need, to drive an average sedan up.

 

Also how thick of a beam would I need to support a standard 1/2 ton pick up truck.

 

Believe it or not the trailer is home made. That is what it saids on the title. The duel axles and frame was part of a mobile home. The entire trailer is built like a tank. Some sanding and a fresh coat of paint, the trailer would look like million dollar.

 

All suggestions welcomed.

got any more pictures that thing looks interesting?

the dove tail looks like it will do alot of draging.

if it was me I would just get a couple of 2x10 or 2x12 about 6 foot long and use them.

I had a small cargo trailer without ramps for a small (1200#) race car. I bought a pair of the metal ramps from harbor freight. They were not long wnough so I added 2x8 bolted together with big fender washers. you would have to check weight rating on the ramps.

now I did have a flat cargo trailer simular to your without the flip down ramps, so yours having the ramps makes it easier actually. I went to the county road and bridge dept. They had torn som old wodden bridges out and had some boards from the road part of the wooden bridge. Maybe 3"x12" all cresoted and heavy !!!! But I loaded everything from 3000# stock car to tractors with a disc on those and never had a problem. Lots of fellows also used what we called PSP. It is the flat metal they use for portable runways.
