Probably a previous owner used the #4 sync screw to set the idle, and now everything is messed up. Don't ask me how I know of such things....
van avery Posted August 12, 2014 #3 Posted August 12, 2014 Welcome to the site. THis will be the best $12 you will spend. The temp on an 83 seems to always show hotter than I liked but from what I read it seems to be more that the temperature indicator on 83's seem to show high normally (close to the red). It did on the two I had. Try a little "wetter water" in the cooling system It helped a little. Need to do testing to find out weather its the regulator/ rectifier or the stator thats bad. Maybe either or both. Check pages 7-9 thru 7-11 in the service manual. http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm Make sure the connections from the stator to the R/R are good. Others have installed a manual switch to turn on the fan earlier. There was a post a couple years ago about a lower temp fan switch but I could not find it available anywhere ( believe it was out of production). Good luck with your new ride.
Walnutz Posted August 12, 2014 Author #5 Posted August 12, 2014 needed someone to come to my home and sync my carbs
