mine is not charging and wont idle down.... it idles around 3000 rpm

I am looking into getting a reg rec unit if any one has one let me know also I need a gasket kit as well

I would like to know where to get these kits and unit from as I am sure we all have needed them at one point and time.. also I am new to these bikes with pumps.....my ol' faithful is a 1973 Honda cb750...I already wished my VR had a kick start.... I would like to know if there is a way to set the fan so it comes on before the three quarters hot mark on the gauge?

I hope to hear back with some help:fingers-crossed-emo

Do a carb sync on it. Probably a previous owner used the #4 sync screw to set the idle, and now everything is messed up. Don't ask me how I know of such things....:whistling:

Welcome to the site. THis will be the best $12 you will spend.

The temp on an 83 seems to always show hotter than I liked but from what I read it seems to be more that the temperature indicator on 83's seem to show high normally (close to the red). It did on the two I had. Try a little "wetter water" in the cooling system It helped a little.

Need to do testing to find out weather its the regulator/ rectifier or the stator thats bad. Maybe either or both. Check pages 7-9 thru 7-11 in the service manual.

Make sure the connections from the stator to the R/R are good.

Others have installed a manual switch to turn on the fan earlier. There was a post a couple years ago about a lower temp fan switch but I could not find it available anywhere ( believe it was out of production).

Good luck with your new ride.
