Yammer Dan Posted August 9, 2014 #1 Posted August 9, 2014 All the packing material I've seen on here seems a bit pricey for what it is. Is there a sub that don't break the bank. The State thought I was living too good so they chopped me pretty good. Gonna have to make a new plan. But anyway I would like to take the edge off the sound coming out of those Bubs but its not that bad. If it costs me too much I'll just turn the radio up!!!
cowpuc Posted August 9, 2014 #2 Posted August 9, 2014 When I was a kid, racing motocross on my 68 Yam DT250, I used to repack my Bassani Expansion Chamber silencer with Fiberglass batting I had borrowed from the insulation out in my Dads garage.. I would squish it down and make a small blanket out of it, cut the blanket and fit it in.. Worked pretty good too until my Dad discovered what I was doing.. The glass didnt work as well quieting down my Dads screams,, it made my ears itch.. Later in life I discovered the fiberglass sheets used in repairing boat hulls and stuff.. Really tight woven stuff that lasted longer than house insulation..
Kirby Posted August 9, 2014 #3 Posted August 9, 2014 Dan I used stainless steel wool the last time I repacked the Roadhouse mufflers on BigGal. I did it a couple of times before with ceramic wrap and regular steel wool but they neither one lasted as long as the stainless steel wool. I wish I could remember where I ordered it from but right now it escapes me.
djh3 Posted August 10, 2014 #4 Posted August 10, 2014 Fleet and farm should have some steel wool that will work. The fiberglass dont last long. Ask anyone that had the old cherry bombs. 3-4 weeks and they were like straight pipes.
Gary N. Posted August 10, 2014 #5 Posted August 10, 2014 Repacked mine the other day. I had bought some stuff off ebay a few years ago and got enough to repack them twice. I guess it's just fiber glass but I got a few years out of the first repack. This time the right pipe had zero left in it and the left side was about 90% left in it. Did them both at the same time so I can't explain why one would be different. Looking on ebay there's all kinds of packing available for $10.00 or less.
