ENG2242 Posted August 7, 2014 #1 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) I put the tall windshield on today. All went well, however, I have some questions. Took Plastic chrome strip off, no problems. Installed new windshield, only issue was the far right screw hole did not line up and drilled a new one. No big deal. All is installed and on the left side above the chrome strip I can see about a 1/4 inch down into the fairing. The inside dash is slightly lower than the outside fairing. The right side is fine. All screws went back in with no problem. I never noticed the slight misalignment before. Will you guys check and se if you can see a separation allowing you to see some of the wire inside the fairing behind the windshield please. Also, the chrome strip wants to pop up if I lift it at the bottom pretty easily and I did not break any tabs. I figured out a way to secure that. Thanks guys. Edited August 13, 2014 by ENG2242 Its an F4 windshield
Stealthblade Posted August 8, 2014 #2 Posted August 8, 2014 Split the fairing a couple weeks ago to get at a leaky fork seal. Putting it all back together again, the left side windshield chrome strip is proud of the windshield by a little over 1/8 inch. None of my tabs are broken and I took it off and put it on at least a half a dozen times. I figured it was just supposed to be like that.
ENG2242 Posted August 8, 2014 Author #3 Posted August 8, 2014 By Proud, are you saying the the space above the chrome strip is lower than the inside dash.
etcswjoe Posted August 8, 2014 #4 Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) I have no gaps in the fairing, make sure you don't have something pinched not allowing it to fit snug. The chrome strip does not fit as snug to the windshield, however not enough to see down into it. Edited August 8, 2014 by etcswjoe
Stealthblade Posted August 8, 2014 #5 Posted August 8, 2014 By proud, I mean my chrome strip is away from the windshield, not "almost" touching like the other side. I am not talking about north/south movement. Again, all tabs are engaged (though there is a lot of play in them), and I did not take a mental snapshot of it before I took it apart to remember. And like etcswjoe said, not enough to see down into it.
etcswjoe Posted August 8, 2014 #6 Posted August 8, 2014 Can you post a couple of pics of what your are seeing?
Gary N. Posted August 8, 2014 #7 Posted August 8, 2014 I don't know if I totally understand what you describe but here's what I'm thinking. On the stock windshield there is a black stripe at the bottom and when everything is installed you can't see the dash through it. If the new one doesn't have the black stripe you are able to see the front side of the dash looking through the windshield just above the chrome piece. If this is what you are seeing I fixed mine with a little black electrical tape. Just put enough on the windshield back side to hide the space below the dash. You could also just paint the windshield with some black paint but the dash might rub it off where it touches it.
ENG2242 Posted August 8, 2014 Author #8 Posted August 8, 2014 That's it exactly!!! It is missing the black which hides any potential offset. Thanks a lot. David
ENG2242 Posted August 8, 2014 Author #10 Posted August 8, 2014 Bert2006, My issue was resolved with a previous post. Otherwise, I would have attached pics. Thanks for everyone's help. David
djh3 Posted August 8, 2014 #11 Posted August 8, 2014 A strip of window tint if you got some excess laying around would probably cover it.
Bert2006 Posted August 8, 2014 #12 Posted August 8, 2014 Bert2006, My issue was resolved with a previous post. Otherwise, I would have attached pics. Thanks for everyone's help. David Would have still liked to see it But glad you got it resolved
dacheedah Posted August 8, 2014 #13 Posted August 8, 2014 Everyone is dying to see a little gap. . . Hmmmmm
djh3 Posted August 8, 2014 #14 Posted August 8, 2014 The end top two screws on the backside that actually hold the chrome piece on. I will put them in place, and set the other screws in the holes then push down on the chrome and tighten the screws from bottom up until I get to those 2. they are the last screws I tighten.
ENG2242 Posted August 10, 2014 Author #15 Posted August 10, 2014 I sincerely appreciate all the input. I attached some pictures as requested, and my solution. First as mentioned by a previous member the OEM wind shield has a blackened sticker at the bottom converging into little black dots to cover any misalignment. I replaced everything as indicated. So, with that, here you go: 1. Is the gap with the new wind shield. 2 & 3 are painted with Rustoleum suitable for plastic. Cleaned taped and scoured up a little. Also, the new shield had one hole that did not line up, that's why there's the impressive drilling. Interesting, I don't see this model on Bagger Shields site today. IDK why. Thanks again guys, your a great help. LE: I was told not to put tint on a plastic product, as it off-gasses and causes bubble.
