I don't think that is a good substitute for a real lift. First of all it does not lift high enough to get a wheel out from under the fender for changing a tire. Having the ability to go a little higher or a little lower really helps when reinserting an axel also.

I made one like that for my first Honda chain driven bike. It doesn't work on every bike cause the engine sticks down on many. I can only use it now on My Kaw ZRX.

Over on the Kawasaki forums when I got my 900 vulcan a few guys were making them out of 2x12 or something. Good enough to change oil or something, but dont think I want to try to change a tire.

I have this cruiser stand and use it on my RSV along with a lift adapter like the one made by Carbon One. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3728&title=carbon-one-standard-lift-adapter&cat=24

 

It works fine as a center stand when doing simple maintenance.

Not sure, but my guess is it will not work without some type of adapter like the carbon one adapter as it will not fit between the exhaust pipes to just hit the frame. IE, it's to wide to make contact with just the frame without hitting the pipes.
