Got My Zumo 550 Yesterday...

...and I have to admit I'm super impressed!! Real easy to use, love the icon, and all sorts of neat features to it!! Also glad I spent the extra for the 550 instead of the 450. Can't wait to actually use it on the bike!!

Yes it comes with a handlebar mount kit that either bolts onto the handlebar, or bolts onto the master cylander. Comes with both SAE and Metric bolts to do so as well!!

 

You actually get two mount kits, one for handlebars, and another with a suction cup for the car as well. I don't think the 450 has the mounts...

 

The 450 comes with the Handlebar mount but does NOT come with the car mount.

BUT you can buy the car suction cup mount online. I did and we use it a lot. Comes in very handy.

Can you program them to take specific routes, or do they always take the shortest route?

From everything I have read you can have them go shortest, fastest, and avoid highways and tolls. Also you can use the mapping software that comes with it and map your route and upload it to the Zumo.

 

I have been following this thread and researching the 550. I am going to let Uncle Sam help me stimulate the economy when my money comes in.

You can program specific routes by using the offline software. You can enter your own POI list and then adjust the automatic routing. Once you get the routing the way you want it, download it to the Zumo. Once in the Zumo, disable the autoroute recalcuation feature to prevent it from overwriting all the cool routing adjustments you made offline. The Zumo will then follow right along the route you designed.

 

There is a tutorial on advriders.com that covers a lot of this.

 

FYI, if you don't want to store all your POIs on the Zumo, you can keep them on an SD card. You can then load them as needed.

 

The Zumo seems to be the benchmark all other motorcycle GPSs get compared to. Others are cheaper, but after using the 550 for a year, I would pay more for the Zumo550.
