Barrycuda Posted August 5, 2014 #26 Posted August 5, 2014 I would want to take it for a good ride and check everything out. If the owner will not let you ride it, forget it. Earl +1 on riding it. and check for salvage title like suggested
Marcarl Posted August 5, 2014 #27 Posted August 5, 2014 Careful,, I don't like the language in his reply,, something fishy!
Squidley Posted August 5, 2014 #28 Posted August 5, 2014 I just bought the pictured bike below for $4200 with 55K on the clock with a decent amount of extra bling on it. I will mention this, that bike would have had to been completely tore down to paint it like it is. I have done this to a couple of RSV's and if you dont know what your doing putting it together can be ugly. Not saying it wasn't put back together properly, but you being a newbie (pardon the pun) would probably not know what to look at and if something looked wrong. As mentioned there are many early 2000's RSV's for sale that haven't been tampered with. My advise is to keep looking unless you can get that bike for a grand or less than what he's asking.... If you want to chat my number is in my profile.
steamer Posted August 5, 2014 #29 Posted August 5, 2014 There is something familiar about that bike; I think it may be a former member especially with the Wagner grille... PS you could put an aftermarket trunk painted black on it fairly inexpensively! Bob, you may be right, Seems like I've seen this bike in an add on craigslist or here in a post. Can't remember, old age setting in.
djh3 Posted August 5, 2014 #30 Posted August 5, 2014 Sylvester Sorry if you thought that was fer you. It was meant for OP. There are some good stuff in his area or within an hour or so drive.
Condor Posted August 5, 2014 #31 Posted August 5, 2014 Made by the late Steve Warner. Wagner.... As a bench mark I just purchased a 2004 RSV Midnight in excellent condition with 65,000 on the ODO for $3,000. Made it a Qwike for another $1200. I did think about having my '07 professionally painted black, but got cold feet when the price hit $2000. The '04 took care of my itch to own a Midnight. So... I think that if this '99 floats your boat, the salvage title issue is resolved, and the paint is a pro job, go for it.. It's a good looking bike. $3800 is not out of the question, but lesser would be nicer.... BTW a duffle will hold a lot more than a trunk.... IMHO
djh3 Posted August 5, 2014 #32 Posted August 5, 2014 Yup I have to agree with Condor on the storage issue. A luggage rack and travel bag has been much ore adjustable and usable. It kind of depends on your co-rider if you have one. Mine loves the convenience of the trunk to just toss stuff in on a day ride. But I suppose you could go the leatherlike or River Roads route with the "hard type" leather trunk bags. All mine save one are soft type. I have one that is a first gear roll aboard that is actually a roll aboard suitcase and a big ole velcro strap to go around the sissy bar/backrest. If you went the "hard type" leather it would sort of be like a trunk to toss odds and ends in. Mine was the blue on far right side. The jacket is covering the bag but you get the idea. Packing the RSV for a week trip with the wife is...... well a project. But after 4 or so years traveling on the bike in fall she is getting better at it. Found a pic from a NC trip with wife.this is the second and the first gear bag I was mentioning.
