Could be getting wet. Went on vacation last week and got caught in a rain shower. Since then every time I try to turn up the volume so my wife and I can talk it gives off a high pitched squeal. 15 and below, it sounds OK but above that we can't bear it. Also does it sometimes when reconnecting helmet cords. What's good to clean the connections with?????

Kirby I get it terrible at that level off and on. I have noticed if I have IC turned up at 10 or so and she unplugs or plugs in its like an ice pick to the eardrum.

Thanks for the feedback ya'll. This is something new to me. I thought at firsy it was my phone being so close to the mike but that wasn't it either. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to clean down in between the prongs of the cable connections? Is contact cleaner safe to use pn these?

I switched to edsets and get a squeel much above 15, we didn't get that with the old J&M's but the sound is much better with the edsets once we made a few mods as the edsets mic is very sensitive. 1 slipped the foam off and put a piece if heat shrink over the mic, a small hole facing mouth and heated up with a hair dryer. We also put mic mutes on the bike.

Well there's something common to both of us. My wife's headset is Edsets also. Maybe it has something to do with the mike sensitivity in the headset. Thanks for the input!

That is probably feedback between the speakers and mic. To find out cover the mic. with your hand and see if it goes away or is reduced.

You could also just plug in your headset with the IC volume turned up. Try it in the tank connector first, then the passenger connector. See if the squeal is eliminated. Then do the same with your wife's headset.

No, not yet. I have tried 3 different headsets and all squeal above the 16 on th IC volume. The Edsets will squeal above 15. I guess for now I' ll just have to live with it until I can get some electrical contact cleaner and give all the connections a good cleaning. I think it has a lot to do with the sensitivity of the mics used. Of the 3 I've tried, Edsets, J&M, and IMC, the Edsets are the most sensitive, followed by the J&M and the IMC. All were tested on the front and back.

Kirby, I got tired of the always on woosh. I bought a pair of the inline on/off mute buttons. Works good for us. The other thing I have done lately is I made a connector to run my earbuds along with the headset. Thus I dont have to run the volume so high on IC and radio etc to hear it. Before radio would be say 12-14 now is at about 8-10 maybe less. IC use to have to be up around 14 now @ 6=7
