Freebird Posted August 2, 2014 #1 Posted August 2, 2014 I was asked if I had any regrets about buying my new 2013 Road Glide just before a new one was supposed to be coming out. The new one was revealed yesterday. Only the standard model is out now. I have the Road Glide Ultra. The standards don't have the tour pak and etc. They are saying early 2015 before the Ultra is released. That being said, from what I have seen so far, I am not the least bit disappointed that I did not wait. I don't think it is bad and it will probably grow on me but at this time, I honestly like my 2013 better and they didn't make any changes that I feel would justify me trading at all. I do like the new "Infotainment" radio system but it's not that big a deal. This one has basically the same engine as mine. The new Ultra may get the Rushmore engine but I wouldn't want that anyway until it has been out a few years. I'm actually a bit relieved. I would have been disappointed if it had been something that I fell in love with after just buying mine. Oh...I do like the wheels though.
XV1100SE Posted August 2, 2014 #2 Posted August 2, 2014 Can't second guess buying something. Things change every year (except the Venture). In electronics what you buy today is out dated in a few months. Happy with what you have is the important thing.
djh3 Posted August 2, 2014 #3 Posted August 2, 2014 I read the article on Yahoo the other day about this bike. Pics and all the hype. I honestly don't see it looks anything different from what they put out3-4yr ago. Maybe the radio stuff like you said, but what did they add that would entice someone to plunk down mo money for same bike as a couple years ago? Oh and about 2 items down from the "big" press release info on this bike was a article on a HD recall for ignition switches turning themselves to "acc" because of engine vibration above 5600 rpm. I realize the FL bikes don't have a "key" ignition anymore but a lot of folks don't. Had to laugh 5600 rpm engine vibrates key enough to turn to acc. Really vibration on a HD??? But I will say the retail price on this bike is WAY more appealing than what I saw for the high dollar Indian they just released.
MikeWa Posted August 2, 2014 #4 Posted August 2, 2014 My theory has always been "Make the best deal you can going in. Then don't look back". Mike
cowpuc Posted August 2, 2014 #5 Posted August 2, 2014 Phew,,, I am still 2 bikes of yours behind anyway Don.. I have yet to hook up with Dan to get to admire your old Yam and havent had the honor of meeting you or your new Harley yet either.. Woudnt know what to do with myself if you swapped out this one before I had a chance to shake your hand and admire your new bike!! On the other hand,, if ya keep buying and selling em to members here sooner or later I WILL get to at least see one of your bikes! My personal thoughts, if I recollect correctly, Harley made another cam tensioner update in 09 and that system is suppose to be good to go over 50k before swap out.. I have worked on a number of twin cams and can say, THAT update is awesome!! Not knowing if the new model Tour Glide is water cooled, if I were investing into a new HD I would give this new watercooled exhaust valve some time to go thru the trenches and run what cha brung brother.
Skid Posted August 2, 2014 #6 Posted August 2, 2014 Scott are you and Tippy going to make the Asheville event this month?
cowpuc Posted August 2, 2014 #7 Posted August 2, 2014 Scott are you and Tippy going to make the Asheville event this month? Still not for sure on that one Skid,, would LOVE to see everybody again AND maybe get a chance to see yours and Dans new bikes:detective: I KNOW that Venturous Randy would welcome us too cause I havent insulted him to badly yet... Besides,, his wife and Tip seem to get along really really well and can chat for hours,, you know how women are - yak yak yak (brother, if B2Mom dont skin me for that one I will eat my ol Harley hat) Hate coming home like we just did, allllll this WORK gets backed up.. Thinkin about selling out and just riding the bike for a living:rotf: I am DIEING to toss a leg and head to Sturgis here too, problem is I got 2 girls out in California that have warned me, if I do head west and dont go back out there to see em I will be a Puc standing in deep puc! Also,, once they get their hands on their ol Pappy they throw fits if we dont stay for at least a week.. My oh my how the days are flyin by!! Hey,, it just occurred to me,,, Randys party ends during the same week that that New York Rally thingy begins dont it? Could catch Randys shin digger, tour up into New York and catch that other shin digger, give us a chance to tour NYC cause we just got chased out of there by a nasty hurricane.. Got any buddies who would let us camp in their yards along the east coast path?? Think before ya speak bro cause me and Tweeks, we smell funny,, not like a pretty flower like Tippy always seems to:rotf: Man brother, I wish I knew a couple of hobo's from NYC,, I have ALWAYS wanted to camp in Times Square, dress like a bag lady and sleep next to a street vent - picture it Skid, a shot of Tweeks and our Tent next to one of those vents with steam coming out of it :cool10: Oh well,, to answer your question in short form,,,, maybe.. Puc
Skid Posted August 2, 2014 #8 Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) I understand. It would be great to see you both again. Ride safe and we'll catch up with you somewhere on road hopefully. Edited August 2, 2014 by Skid
Wade 2000 Posted August 2, 2014 #9 Posted August 2, 2014 I to was kind of disappointed with the new model as the rumor over this way is that the revamped RG was going to get the V-rod power plant. I'll reserve my judgement for the RG Ultra and see what flavors it comes in.
BigLenny Posted August 2, 2014 #10 Posted August 2, 2014 Don, I'm happy for ya! I'm sure you've all heard the rumor that Eric Buell had the patent on the previous RG fairing, and the reason they changed it was because they had to come up with a new fairing design that wouldn't be tied to Buell. Well, by looking at the new photos, there might've been some truth to that, because the only real change I see is the design of the fairing. Hmmm.
