Freebird Posted August 2, 2014 #51 Posted August 2, 2014 Yes. Even though many of us here are old farts or at least close to being old farts, there are a surprisingly number of members that are young enough to still have kids in school. Some can't get away once the kids return to school.
steamer Posted August 2, 2014 #52 Posted August 2, 2014 just going to throw this out there. how about st. charles, missouri. we have convention centers, tons of motels, historic main street right on the missouri river, many wineries, loads of riding, historic hannibal,mo., two casinos, restaurants all over, museums, national transportation museum, etc. etc. i have had 3 meet and eats here with big turnouts. star days was here last week. i may consider hosting another international if there is enough interest. i live here and could muster up enough help. i have done one of the international meets already, at the hub in ar. and it was a total success. let me know what you'all think. snarley bill :sign yeah that::sign yeah that:good central location.
Yammer Dan Posted August 2, 2014 #53 Posted August 2, 2014 Whats that ya say Joe??? I think I'll go for a ride!!
Eck Posted August 2, 2014 #54 Posted August 2, 2014 ...............What if we pick a location as central to the West Coast, East coast and the Canadian/US border as we can.. ... How's that for thinking outside the box Eck? I like your thinking Puc. Just my 2 cents: No matter where it ends up, not everyone will feel it is centrally located or fair in that some may have to ride farther than others. Hard to satisfy all on this no matter who plans it or decides it's location. Glad that is not my task, for I would not want it.

Actually, it was YOUR way of thinking outside the box that empowered me to do the same - I LIKE YOUR WAY OF THINKING ECK!! Another thought is, how bout doing some polling on the subject? I like polls, kinda test the waters and see what the family feels about the subject.. I know one thing, I have a pretty good hypothesis that the West Coast folks match the Southern Folks who match the Canadians who match the East Coast folks who match the Northern folks when comes to :ice_thy-vi101212101and wouldnt mind proving my theory.. Kind of a VR International Science Experiment Rally if you will.. Probably just be EasyRIder, Condor, BigTom (havent met him yet - maybe soon), Divey, Dale124, YammerDan, Skid, BikerJohn, Squid, BongoBob, Raggy, Carbon One, the 2 Venturouses, ETCSWJoe, TheKid (not that I think he likes ice cream - he is crazy enough to see if he does), Monty, Kev from BC, Sarges, CMCoffey, VentureFar (he would do it just to go for a ride) and FlyingFool (we could convert his sno-machine into an ice cream maker) who would be for sures on that one though..
Skid Posted August 2, 2014 #56 Posted August 2, 2014 Hey Cowpuc, anytime someone wants to schedule such a moving event it doesn't have to be a international. Might be surprised who shows up. The biggest issue is some folks doesn't want to ride as long as others and may be difficult keeping everyone together. I had thought about that once before starting at a cookout at my house and riding to another cookout at RiderDukes. There are some awesome roads between my house and his. Just saying...
djh3 Posted August 2, 2014 #57 Posted August 2, 2014 I was wondering if ya could have it in Oct. But I guess I kind of knew why it was when it was. We have been kind of liking the NC trip in Oct to the mountains and occasionally it works out we get to see the colors. The traveling show thing is a cool idea. Make manageable groups to ride together, load the days route for up load in GPs for those who want it and go. There would be hurdles I'm sure. We normally ride a day like that with breakfast at hotel, a snack at lunch and then a decent dinner. others like the full on lunch meal.
CaptainJoe Posted August 2, 2014 #58 Posted August 2, 2014 Nebraska and Kansas are in the middle of the US. To the west Colorado, and to the east Missouri. The only one close to central US, that is willing to host, so far, is Snarley Bill.
steamer Posted August 2, 2014 #59 Posted August 2, 2014 Snarley Bill stepped up to the plate. If anyone else is willing to do the same, then we can put it to a vote as we have in the past. So what we need are people that will commit to organizing a rally in there area. Then we vote on the location. The winner gets to put together the 2015 IR. So, any other volunteers?

The way the conversation is going however, tacked towards a centralized location... Don't have a problem with that. Hopefully, the people that vote on the next IR destination, actually attend. steamer Posted August 2, 2014 #61 Posted August 2, 2014 All I'm saying is the last 3 rallies have been convenient for more people east of the Mississippi then west. If the location is more central then more people might attend.

slowrollwv Posted August 3, 2014 #63 Posted August 3, 2014 I myself like all three locations. WV is home, Sturgis I like and would take a day and run into Kaycee WY. to see a friend that has a ranch there. Missouri I am thinking about a trip there next year around the 4TH of July anyhow.
Barrycuda Posted August 3, 2014 #64 Posted August 3, 2014 oklahoma, kansas and missouri seem to be the most "central of places", but again, somebody somewhere will be riding the furthest out.
Eck Posted August 3, 2014 #65 Posted August 3, 2014 Someone should take a tape measure and pick a spot really close to halfway across the U.S./Canadian border and than we go with the closest town to that point and INVADE it!! :cool10: Think I will do that just for fun (for sure the measuring, MAYBE the invading too:stirthepot:) Hows that for thinking outside the box Eck? Got it for you Puc.. Geographic center of USA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_center_of_the_contiguous_United_States
XV1100SE Posted August 3, 2014 Author #66 Posted August 3, 2014 We could do it where we've never gone before with the International. We do have members in Iceland, Europe, and Australia. Bit of a wet ride...
cowpuc Posted August 3, 2014 #67 Posted August 3, 2014 Got it for you Puc.. Geographic center of USA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_center_of_the_contiguous_United_States COOL Eck!! Thanks my friend!! BUT,, I was actually thinking more about a place more the center of U.S. and Canada.. I got to meet a bunch of them folks this year and watched with a smile on my face as LOTS of great interaction took place between we Americans and them there Canucks, it was a BLAST!! At a glance, Winnipeg appears to be the actual closest to my weathered eyes, no idea whats up there.. Another spot that has a cool name for an International Rally and, again closer to what appears centrally located is International Falls.. Not sure if thats in the U.S. or Canada and no idea whats up there.. I love this brain storming stuff even it turns out to be crazy.. Puc
Flyinfool Posted August 3, 2014 #68 Posted August 3, 2014 International Falls is in Minnesota. That would be in the USA. They get a LOT of snow up there.
Phoneman1981 Posted August 3, 2014 #69 Posted August 3, 2014 Great feed back. If something does not get decided upon in the next few days I intend to check with two other VR members near me that are currently in Custer taking in Bike week at this very moment to see if they would be willing to help coordinate a black hills rally for 2015.
Snarley Bill Posted August 3, 2014 #70 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) heres my take on the international rally. as any one that has hosted one can tell you its a heck of alot of work. its also a lot of fun. i picked a great commitee when i did the hub. we worked our butts off and had several planning meets to get ready for it. i have done quite a few meets on this group here in missouri, and in arkansas. im 71 years old and kind of getting slower and burned out. not as much oomf as i once had. not sure i want to take on the commitment again mainly cuz i don't know how my health will be next year. i have some issues. linda reminded me i'm not a kid anymore. the problem i see here is everybody has great ideas but wants someone else to do all the work. thats the way it always seem to go. i would like to do one more big bash before i hang it up but would hate to chance not being able to follow through on my commitment. some of you young folks need to jump in and get your feet wet. you have a year to get it together. i spent yesterday checking out the convention center and motels in st. charles. thats the kind of commitment you have to have if your going to have a successful meet. my 2 cents. snarley bill Edited August 3, 2014 by Snarley Bill
TDunc Posted August 3, 2014 #71 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) Yes. Even though many of us here are old farts or at least close to being old farts, there are a surprisingly number of members that are young enough to still have kids in school. Some can't get away once the kids return to school. Some of us are teachers too. and yes, I am an old fart. Edited August 3, 2014 by TDunc
Phoneman1981 Posted August 3, 2014 #72 Posted August 3, 2014 Thanks for your input Bill. I admire anyone that has undertaken such a task. I only wish I lived in the Black Hills rather than. 4 hours south. I am checking with other members via text messages this morning to get their take on things.

I am checking with other members via text messages this morning to get their take on things. no matter where the folks pick to have the meet you don't have to live near there. squidely lived in michigan and did the one in colorado. i live by st. louis and have done 4 meets in ar.. thats part of the fun you have a small meet where the international is going to be to check out the area with your committee. sounds like you have the bug to do it. my commitee lived 100s of miles from me in all directions which is no problem, we did most everything on line. go for it is a real feeling of accomplishment when it all falls in place. bill:2133:
eusa1 Posted August 3, 2014 #74 Posted August 3, 2014 I agree that if you are willing to do the work and host the event then step up and sound off! And btw St.Louis area would be great imho. Mike

If Bill does the St. Louis I just bet some of his committee will step up ! Buddy
