2015 International Rally

the past few Intls have been east and to me west means west of KS, NE, SD and so on as this is the geographic west of the US when you look at a map. We in the west have fewer riders than the east and it appears that its about a 2/3 east and 1/3 west so I would like to see a truly west event geographically so that the 1/3 of us in the east can actually attend an INTL event.

Just my 2 cents and an observation. :)

Chatter is good and lots of ideas can and will spring up and yes, once the locaton is picked, we all go into hibernation until spring but I think one important timeline is hotel and camping reservations. I think blocking off rooms and campsites needs to be done well before the event.

Hey Puc,

I live in Winnipeg which is roughly the geographical center of North America. Actually the center is Rugby ND. The area is very flat. I call it the land of right angles.

And I am not able to volunteer putting an event on, no time, but can help if needed.

My wife and I were in the black hills just before the Fort Collins rally and didn't find it congested. It was in July, I can't remember the date. The big bike pubs were either not open or skeleton staffed.

We went back to the black hills just after the Hub rally and actually found it to be a very good time. We pulled in at the end of bike week, Sunday evening and passed tons of riders and trailer queens leaving the area. Lots of room on the roads, we had our pick of campgrounds. Big savings at the Sturgis street vendors.

I liked the Hub, mostly because the hotelers and campers were right beside each other and we didn't have to worry about "riding" back to the room or campsite after drinks. This year we had a shuttle for this. A place that had this feature would be great.

I understand and appreciate the amount of effort and planing that goes into these events.

Just adding my 2 cents.

Tom

Could we not for example pick a Base of Operations (hotel) and have everyone meet there and then organize rides, eating, etc from there. Keep it simple. Do something one year that does not involve Prizes, Banquets, ect., although I enjoyed this at my first rally in Galena. I would think that with the experience that this group has that getting a place to eat as a group on a couple of occasions would not be difficult. NOTE: This is a motorcycle friendly area. Have the Chamber in Rapid City call their members and let the members bid on where a LARGE GROUP of MC folks with $$$$$ in their pockets goes. Just saying. Maybe a Rally where we just all meet up and "MAKE THINGS HAPPEN" when we get there. Getting there is half the adventure they say? Whoever "THEY" are>

Long Tall

Tip and I seem to be in the habit of catching Sturgis before/after the rally on a regular basis while fooling around out there (LOVE THAT AREA).. Other than the week before the rally (LOTS of folks choose to start the rally during that week) have always found touring the Blackhills during those non-rally times very doable.. BUT, like Condor has mentioned, next year IS the 75th for them and it could really get interesting.

I will say this, I have noticed thru the years that the Sturgis Rally hasnt been nearly as busy (cant say that for sure about this years rally cause we didnt make it back out).. Just seems like the economy has really affected the rally.. Did notice LOTS of Vendor space still available when we came thru there a couple weeks before the rally this year..

Back when I was in management I held "Round Robins" on a regular basis.. When I announced it was a Round Robin meeting it meant that I WANTED everyone in the room to feel free to give their thoughts and ideas on what ever subject we were going to discuss and that there would be no criticism no matter how crazy the idea's were.. Worked pretty dog gone good too.. The great idea's people came up with ALWAYS amazed me , once people felt safe in sharing their ideas it was endless! In the spirit of a good old "Round Robin" I would like to add:

Tom, THANKS for taking the time to find the actual Geographic Center of North America - how cool is that!! I dont know a lot about Rugby ND but I do know that there are LOTS of open, non-conjested paths out there (unless that has changed cause of gas/oil stuff going on up there)..

Combine that with what Long Tall mentions and that slower paced area might actually work in our favor..

Spring boarding off both your thoughts and Jacks input on Sturgis, we could have a "Rally Point" being as close to the exact N. America center as we could get at a set time,, find a park or something just to gather at and meet new friends and old.. Set up a parade ride around the area in the spirit of VR International Unity instead of actual site seeing.. Could meet at the same Rally Point two days in a row for some elbow room..

Ya know, thinking about this,, it wouldnt even have to be declared the VR International.. It could just be a Family Reunion Ride or a big Meet and Greet or something...

All that said, I just like saying hi to people and putting faces with names:rotf::bighug::stirthepot::whistling:

st. charles would be an ultra premium location. the pros are, it has a great historic main street location waterfronted on the missouri river, it has a casino, many historic towns and winerys nearby. tons of hotels and motels, awesome riding, one of the largest motorsport dealers in the usa that may sponser a meet some how, mostly cuz i just bought my honda ruckus from them, a huge lakeside park with primitive, and full hook up camping with a new 350 person out door pavillian that can be reserved for the closing meal and get together, this park is a brand new multi million dollar facility. i haven't been sitting on my butt. i've been doing alot of checking around just in case st.charles should get picked. i have had three meet and eats here with a big turn out, and it is about as central of a location that there is. not commiting myself yet. it would depend on me being able to put together a top notch commitee, cuz i think we would have quite a turn out. i ain't a kid no more so i would want some one to cohost with me. i can't even begin to scratch the surface on all the things that are available to see and do here. :2133: ps. i've got an idea of who i would like to co host this with me. i will pm him if it happens to come down to st. charles. any one want to guess who. i ain't gonna tell :rasberry:

Sounds great, but too far east for this old man...... :backinmyday:

Hello Everyone: I did speak with my wing riding friend that lives in Whitewood SD. I asked his advice on a location for a rally. He indicated if he were planning such an event in the Black Hills area he would consider the Elk View camp ground just down the road from him. I believe it mentioned by another member in a previous post. Tony described the location as having 50 rental cabins for those that do not tent like me, as well as numerous tenting campsites. I have not had time to do anymore research as of yet. Great ideas in regards to next year being the 75th with high attendance expectations?? My preference would be a late June or early July time frame to avoid the chaos of Sturgis. We met a few Canucks in Custer over the 4th of July this year and had a blast!!! Great riding with little traffic. More investigation is needed if this area is to be considered. The other locations of MO and CO sound wonderful also.

If this is the place... https://www.elkviewcampground.com/ I see it offers 22 tent sites with electric as well as 80 full hook-up RV sites. They also have a 4300 sq ft building that can be rented for events such as a banquet. But... I see nothing about cabin rentals. Does look like they cater to bikers well.

I think you should step up.......I'll help......:stirthepot:

No problem Tom, Since you volunteered, I appoint you head of ALL rally arrangements, Venue, food, Tee shirts, Hotel reservations, Fee collection and any other related activities. Just report to me once a month to let me know how its going. I suggest that since you are already doing all of this for your WNY rally, that you just change the name to International Rally..... Oh, wait, we already did this 3 years ago. Well since your so good at this then maybe you should be in charge. Robin and I will help, along with BongoBob, frogger, motorcycletom, buffalobodner, Taters and anyone else I may have left out. Heck anyone that wants to volunteer just throw in your hat.:stirthepot: back at you big guy.

Everyone is suggesting places to have it but I only see one member step up & actually volunteer to HOST this event...SNARLEY BILL.

BILL, if it's decided that you can host the international next year in St Charles, Don & I will volunteer to be on your committee & lend a hand if you want us to. I believe it could be the best one to date and that's some BIG shoes to fill.

Patti & Don ( the B2s)

patti, i would be honored over and over again to have you folks on my commitee. we will wait and see what happens. freebird has the last call. i guess i am officially throwing my hat in the ring. and will be willing to take on the commitment if st. charles gets picked. one thing i forgot to mention in a previous posts is I-70 goes right through the middle of town, so it is easily accessable from anywhere. :2133:

If St Charles is the location it's Only 3, 12 hour days for us west coasters (just under 2000 miles) so could we have the get together meal in the middle of the rally? That way we can arrive, spend a day meeting everyone and have a nice meal before heading back the following day. Still waiting on Publisher's Clearing House to arrive :stirthepot:

thats one thing that should be a part of planning an international rally. whom ever hosts should start a thread open to suggestions and ideas from members. after all it is everyones rally so every one should be free to have input. you will get a lot of neat ideas such as yours and a few wild ones. every one should be able to contribute their input. when i did the 09 rally at the hub i had alot of input from members with great ideas, some of which were used. a couple were questionable and i consulted with don and he said it's your call, so i made the final call.
