Condor Posted August 21, 2014 Share #126 Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) I'd love to see this rally be held in Montrose, CO. Montrose is at the top of the Million Dollar Highway. You can go to Silverton, Durango, Cortez, Mesa Verde National Park, Telluride. You have good access to Denver, Steamboat Springs, Independence Pass and other great sites. Now these are some great suggestions.....er....chatter.... Ya know, after looking at the map, for me personally, Montrose would be kinda cool. I've always wanted to ride that section of Hwy50 between Fallon Nev., and Ely NV, Americas Loneliest Hwy, and it's right on the way. 2Days and 1000 miles. Head east a thou and there's a lot of members in that circle. There would be a lot of members left out on the east coast, but join the club..... Maybe it's time to start a Venture East.... tomephil Posted August 21, 2014 Share #129 Posted August 21, 2014 Chatter is good and lots of ideas can and will spring up and yes, once the locaton is picked, we all go into hibernation until spring but I think one important timeline is hotel and camping reservations. I think blocking off rooms and campsites needs to be done well before the event. Hey Puc, I live in Winnipeg which is roughly the geographical center of North America. Actually the center is Rugby ND. The area is very flat. I call it the land of right angles. And I am not able to volunteer putting an event on, no time, but can help if needed. My wife and I were in the black hills just before the Fort Collins rally and didn't find it congested. It was in July, I can't remember the date. The big bike pubs were either not open or skeleton staffed. We went back to the black hills just after the Hub rally and actually found it to be a very good time. We pulled in at the end of bike week, Sunday evening and passed tons of riders and trailer queens leaving the area. Lots of room on the roads, we had our pick of campgrounds. Big savings at the Sturgis street vendors. I liked the Hub, mostly because the hotelers and campers were right beside each other and we didn't have to worry about "riding" back to the room or campsite after drinks. This year we had a shuttle for this. A place that had this feature would be great. I understand and appreciate the amount of effort and planing that goes into these events. Just adding my 2 cents. utadventure Posted August 22, 2014 Share #130 Posted August 22, 2014 There are plenty that would be willing to head up the rally, including me, but it really makes a difference as to where the rally is held. It makes no sense if the rally is held in the east somewhere. I would head up a rally in Montrose but would still need assistance from someone closer that can help work out lodging, ideal rides etc.

Long Tall Posted August 22, 2014 Share #132 Posted August 22, 2014 Sounds like a great location:cool10: Wife and I were tied up with moving Mother from Florida during this years rally. We loved the SD trip a few years ago and would do this again. Actually been talking about it.
Long Tall Posted August 22, 2014 Share #133 Posted August 22, 2014 I agree Bob. Let the planners decide where they want to have it, although in our experience we've found that they don't need to have it in their back yard. Until someone steps up it's a moot point. But just in case did I mention STURGIS!! Around June 21st... the longest day of the year. Lodging...Food...Camping...Riding?? Two Thumbs Up! friesman Posted August 22, 2014 Share #134 Posted August 22, 2014 I agree the Sturgis area would be fantastic. I would help anyone set something up in this area, but I havnt been there and don't know about too many details of running an Intl. Brian
Barrycuda Posted August 22, 2014 Share #135 Posted August 22, 2014 If it's headed in the SD, or areas near, that would be pretty cool. It's a long ride from Tampa, and many East coast riders may not be able to get the time needed to ride. For me, I'm interested, but I better start planning and prepping my wife now.... For the 'retired beeches' (did I get that right Dan?) among us... this would not be a major obstacle.. but for those who can only get a week at a time vacation, that could present a challenge. Riding six long days total to spend three days at an event would likely deter a large number of the membership.

But knowing in advance does give one time to prepare getting vacation time set aside with their work place & family. Larry

I'll throw this in for an FYI. Wife and I left Lynchburg, VA (1600) miles to Rapid City, SD. Rode the concrete highway all the way out. Did 500 mile days pulling the Aluma MCT Trailer. Up early and really did not rush on the stops or lunch breaks. Even spent second morning riding in rain form Louisville, Ky going West. Left on a Saturday AM and arrived Rapid City, SD (Home Base) on Monday Evening Late. Spent three full days riding the area and saw a lot of great stuff and everything we wanted to do. This was first of Sept. Labor Day Weekend. Monday was a Holiday so Vacation for the wife (NURSE) was Tues-Fri and then Mon off following week. Rode Tues, Wed, Thrus, Fri in the area. We could have planned either three or four day coming home either way. Could we not for example pick a Base of Operations (hotel) and have everyone meet there and then organize rides, eating, etc from there. Keep it simple. Do something one year that does not involve Prizes, Banquets, ect., although I enjoyed this at my first rally in Galena. I would think that with the experience that this group has that getting a place to eat as a group on a couple of occasions would not be difficult. NOTE: This is a motorcycle friendly area. Have the Chamber in Rapid City call their members and let the members bid on where a LARGE GROUP of MC folks with $$$$$ in their pockets goes. Just saying. Maybe a Rally where we just all meet up and "MAKE THINGS HAPPEN" when we get there. Getting there is half the adventure they say? Whoever "THEY" are> Long Tall PS: The Yamaha Dealer in Rapid City was less than 2 miles from where we stayed. I arranged for the shop to "JUST LOOK THE BIKE OVER" before the 1600 mile trip home. Took about 30 minutes and I give them $20. Nice big lot also.
Venturous Posted August 22, 2014 Share #144 Posted August 22, 2014 I do really like the SD Black Hills idea. Was just concerned turn out could be very light. I agree with Long Tall on the route thing. This is such a popular riding area... finding pre-defined routes should be fairly easy. Websites like http://www.motorcycleroads.com/Routes/South-Dakota_117.html or http://www.southdakotarides.com/ would be some places to start. Might just print out a handful a known good routes, and let folks break into smaller groups each day and ride one. Often this works better than trying to have a 50 bike parade anyway. It is nice to have at least one scheduled evening event so that everyone has a chance to mingle and meet. I think it would be nice to have at least two scheduled events. One based at the motel... the other at the campground. Maybe banquet at motel and bonfire at campground. That way motelers and campers equally stay involved. I've been to many events where the campers were kind of seen as the red-headed step child.

Snarley Bill Posted August 23, 2014 Share #148 Posted August 23, 2014 st. charles would be an ultra premium location. the pros are, it has a great historic main street location waterfronted on the missouri river, it has a casino, many historic towns and winerys nearby. tons of hotels and motels, awesome riding, one of the largest motorsport dealers in the usa that may sponser a meet some how, mostly cuz i just bought my honda ruckus from them, a huge lakeside park with primitive, and full hook up camping with a new 350 person out door pavillian that can be reserved for the closing meal and get together, this park is a brand new multi million dollar facility. i haven't been sitting on my butt. i've been doing alot of checking around just in case st.charles should get picked. i have had three meet and eats here with a big turn out, and it is about as central of a location that there is. not commiting myself yet. it would depend on me being able to put together a top notch commitee, cuz i think we would have quite a turn out. i ain't a kid no more so i would want some one to cohost with me. i can't even begin to scratch the surface on all the things that are available to see and do here. ps. i've got an idea of who i would like to co host this with me. i will pm him if it happens to come down to st. charles. any one want to guess who. i ain't gonna tell
