Motorcycle Mike Posted July 28, 2014 #1 Posted July 28, 2014 I just orderd Skydocks clutch spring upgrade to beef up the clutch in preparation for the trike. My clutch is not slipping. Do you think I should get new friction plates as well? Thanks!
Flyinfool Posted July 28, 2014 #2 Posted July 28, 2014 Only if you need them. A new disc will not grip any better than a used disc that is still in spec. OEM friction discs are 3mm (0.1181 inche) thick, worn out is 2.8mm (0.1102 inch) thick. My discs measured 0.1170 inch thick at 45,000 miles. I reused them.
Motorcycle Mike Posted July 28, 2014 Author #3 Posted July 28, 2014 I'm probably OK then. I'll check the thickness when I get in there. Thanks again.
Carbon_One Posted July 29, 2014 #4 Posted July 29, 2014 I did the same thing as soon as I got the bike and before the actual conversion. My bike had 9500 miles on it when I got it but knowing the extra load being put on it I did it now rather than later. On my 05 the clutch started slipping at about 30k . Larry
Motorcycle Mike Posted August 3, 2014 Author #5 Posted August 3, 2014 I confused myself. The last disk you install is a friction disk, not a steel disk, correct?
Cougar Posted August 4, 2014 #6 Posted August 4, 2014 Correct http://www.venturerider.org/clutchupgrade/image021.jpg
