GolfVenture Posted July 25, 2014 #1 Posted July 25, 2014 Anyone have a Left Mirror for a 1st Gen. My friend who bought an 86 VR said the Left Mirror needs replaceing for the mirror wont stay put. That is all that needs replacing. His 86 VR has only 9700 miles and is in show room condition, except for this Left Mirror. So he is looking for one that is in really nice condition. He would like one that will polish up really nice to match his VR condition. I found one on ebay but one takes their chances on ebay as to the condition and how it will polish up. Thought I would give a member the opportunity to sell one first.
cimmer Posted July 25, 2014 #2 Posted July 25, 2014 They are still available new from Yamaha. 71 REAR VIEW MIRROR ASS (LEFT) 26H-26290-30-00 (replaces 26H-26290-11-00) PartShark has it for $65.04 but you can also find them on ebay but who knows the condition they will actually be in. If the bike is show room condition I would suggest a new one. Rick F
Neil86 Posted July 25, 2014 #3 Posted July 25, 2014 Its been a long time since I had a mirror off my 86, but isn't there a tension adjustment for the swivel on the underside of the mount....
GolfVenture Posted July 25, 2014 Author #4 Posted July 25, 2014 Its been a long time since I had a mirror off my 86, but isn't there a tension adjustment for the swivel on the underside of the mount.... I will take a look. He will be riding it back on Monday from his out of state purchase. Tks.
Peder_y2k Posted July 25, 2014 #5 Posted July 25, 2014 The mirrors have a tension adjuster screw. Removal of the mirror is not required.....simply pry the rubber shroud upwards and the screw can be seen. The screw has no head, so small pliers can be used to grip. Usually, when a mirror is loose/floppy, the plastic swivel socket is cracked/broken........ only 'repair' is to glue it in place......... -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
Prairiehammer Posted July 26, 2014 #7 Posted July 26, 2014 The adjuster looks like this : Bill, your pictured mirror has been 'modified'. I have a new in the box mirror and there are no nuts on it. All there is on my mirror is a short (1/4") threaded portion of a screw showing. No nut.
KIC Posted July 26, 2014 #8 Posted July 26, 2014 Okay... that was an extra mirror that I had. Soooo...... it DOESN'T look like this :
