Western KS vs Western NE?

We are planning to head from Eastern Nebraska to Utah on our Trike simply to put CO and UT on our Map. We have seen western Nebraska many times and have nothing against it. In fact, I really like far western Nebraska. But, we have never seen western Kansas. We always stay mid to eastern Kansas.

 

Well, it occurred to me that we COULD head southwest and travel thru Kansas on our way to Colorado. But, we have no idea what western Kansas looks like. If it looks like eastern Kansas, then I would rather stay in western Nebraska!!

 

If any of you have been thru the western parts of both states, what do you think?

Western Kansas is nothing like Eastern Kansas. Eastern Kansas has HILLS (Flint Hills)! Western Kansas is why everyone thinks Kansas is flat.

When I said pretty similar I actually meant Western NE and Western KS. Didn't read the question close enough. All I know is they are way longer than I like getting to Colorado or Wyoming.
