Prairiehammer Posted July 22, 2014 #1 Posted July 22, 2014 I've been looking for a Bushtec trailer for several months (since the demise of our old Dart trailer in the great state of Ohio) and finally found one locally. It is a 1993 Turbo+2 with the spoiler and lid rub rails on top, chrome tongue, bra and chrome rear bumper/light bar. It does not have a cooler, though. The seller wants $2000 for it. From what I have seen, that price is about right for that vintage, provided it is in good condition. I am going to inspect it tomorrow and I would like to know what to be on the lookout for when examining this trailer. Could you tell me some points to check? Thanks.
Condor Posted July 22, 2014 #2 Posted July 22, 2014 I don't know what year they made a hitch change, but you might check to make sure one is available for that year that will work on your bike, as Bushtec doesn't support the older styles. I think they made three design changes??? BTW I see older Bushes going for as low at $1000 on CL locally. 2 is on the high side.
eusa1 Posted July 22, 2014 #3 Posted July 22, 2014 Solodad here on the site is always buying or selling a bushtec trailer, you might inquire with him. he is also here in Illinois (pekin)
Cowboy Posted July 22, 2014 #4 Posted July 22, 2014 Air Shocks for leaks and rebound. Eck, might chime in hear I recall him just replacing a shock on his. Hiem Joint working properly should rotate 360 and swivel inside hiem just make sure not warn out. Lift one side up at a time and spin the wheels to make sure you don't hear grinding wheel bearings. I just replaced mine last year, not a big deal just rented a blind bearing puller from my local parts store. Make sure to buy a quality bearing not worth having to replace on because you saved a few bucks. Check the wiring harness and see how it looks most wires are hidden but possible at least check that the lights work. Do you have a progressive air shock pump? This works great for the air shocks. Hope you find that it is what you need. Bushtec makes a great trailer. Another note look for stress fractures in the lid sometimes the fiberglass lids have problems. I think I have only seen two that did and I have seen a bunch of bushtec's. Good Luck
Prairiehammer Posted July 22, 2014 Author #5 Posted July 22, 2014 Thanks guys for the pointers. I counter offered the seller $1500, but he won't budge from $2000. So, in light of the apparent too high value he has placed on this 21 year old trailer I am going to keep looking. I have filed your suggestions for the next time. I really would like a Bushtec, but it appears I can not afford one or justify that money for a garage queen that will be used once a year.
