Been going over the bike to make sure it was ready to go to International and thought I had something in the tire but after closer inspection I noticed the tread was cracking and separating from the tire. I have heard of the issue with Avons and the sidewall cracking but never the treads separating. I dropped Avon an e-mail to see if I have any options. Most of all I just wanted to say if you have Avons go check you tread.

 

Hopefully someone local has a tire I can get before International.

With all of the problems that have been reported about the Venoms.........why do you guys still buy them? I would replace it for sure, but not with another Venom. Cool name, but crappy product.

What is the date code on that tire?

3909 so it is right at 5 years old, I had a flat last year in Louisville and it was only tire I could find did not even think about looking at the date code then. If I was a pessimistic person I would say the dealer offloaded an old tire on me.

Probally go Dunlap Ellite 3 to match the front tire, that is if one is available localy.

I would not risk my life by riding on tires in that condition....and with the reputation that Venom has I would not waste my money on them either.

Boomer....who sez when your life is riding on 2 tires make sure they are in top notch shape at all times.:cool10:

I'm on my 3rd set of Venoms, never a bit of trouble from them. I buy locally and insist on a date code from the current year and normally get 2 seasons out of them. The shop I deal with is happy to comply with my desire for fresh tires. The same tech has mounted all of them and routinely will change mounting position till he finds where it takes the lowest amount of weight to balance. Always a new valve stem.

Dunlop E3's are the way to go...

 

 

Pretty much especially since I would be 2 up and pulling a trailer. Believe it or not Charleston is not a easy place to find tires for this bike. Had E3's on it till I hit that piece of metal last year and had to get this one while on the road.

Doesn't UPS deliver there? Buy on line, have your local dealer install (if they choose not to stock the appropriate size).

Good choice. That is what I have been running for my last two tire changes. I won't even consider anything else.

I've also had good luck with E3's. BUT , the last one I pulled off was cracking bad on sidewalls and showing signs of delaminating. So no one brand works well all the time.

Thanks my local dealer had them, I forgot about my military discount I will ask for it when I pick the tire up.

+1 here. I have had two full sets since I owned the venture and the parts guy and myself check them before install. I've had great success with them and handled well in the Florida heat and the rain in Tennessee and vogel...the date code on mine was 1 year. The ones in the photos, I would not chance riding them...

I think the load rating varies on the E3 depending on whether it is belted but verify for yourself. I think Motorcycle Superstore advertises the belted E3 as a Harley tire.

 

I don't think being 5 years old had anything to do with it, just my smelly opinion.

What pressure have you been running in that Venom ?

 

Since both the wife and I are large folks and we pull the trailer I was running max 42 pounds

 

Bought the E3, waiting to see if the Avon rep will do anything for me on the old tire.

Have 9 k on my E3's. Had a minor cut that took a while to wear down, other than that they're great. Velocity will match prices if you find them cheaper elsewhere

I run more than that in my rear tire...Venom.... and I am 200 lb. Max on that tire is 50 lb and if you are riding 2up with trailer you should be close to that. IMHO that is. If you run your next tire that percentage low I am sure it will fail also.

The sidewall on these were marked 42 Max its a 74V and Avon concurred, on my other Venture they are Marked 50 it's an 80H and I run closer to that on those.
