PuttPutt Posted July 17, 2014 #1 Posted July 17, 2014 I have found a beautiful 2005 VMax for $5000.00. Not a scratch on it. Seat is perfect. Has a sissy bar installed and is red and black. Metzer tires, plenty of tread but dry rot cracks on front tire. Sound like good deal?
Flyinfool Posted July 17, 2014 #2 Posted July 17, 2014 Sounds like fun. Plan on needing 2 new tires. Check the date codes. Can use that to help bargain. $5k is in the middle of the range from Kelly Blue book. Beyond that I have no real idea if that is a good price.
cowpuc Posted July 17, 2014 #3 Posted July 17, 2014 Depending on mileage and overall condition I would say that is a pretty good deal.. I picked up a non running (needed some tweekin like it seems everything I buy for resale does) 90ish red one earlier this year and it disappeared pretty quickly for 3500.. It only had 13k, wasnt exactly prestine but a good looking bike.. Also, it seems like completely stock bikes are worth a little more... Hope this helps!! PS,, if it were one of the new 1700cc I would peel off double that real quickly!!
PuttPutt Posted July 18, 2014 Author #4 Posted July 18, 2014 Went and really checked it over. Cranked on first spin of motor, and sounded absolutly wicked. Nice clean bike. One owner and 16,000 miles. Beautiful Corbin seat and no rust . Bike looks like it had really been taken care of. Think I am gonna get it.
dacheedah Posted July 18, 2014 #5 Posted July 18, 2014 I would get it and service it, change out tires and drive it like u stole it.

Beau-Kat Posted July 19, 2014 #9 Posted July 19, 2014 Price is probably ok for the condition you relate that it is in. There are a lot of VMaxes out there for sale these days. If you haven't had a VMax, be careful over 115 mph (and you can get there darn quickly). They run like silk up to 100, but much over that and they can get into a death wobble sometimes. Some owners say to address or add these: Steering head bearing adjustment, the "Furbur Fix", replacing the original weak fork brace with a Superbrace, installing frame stiffeners, installing solid motor mounts, wider handlebars, lowering the front end by moving forks up into the triple clamps, etc. all of these offer promise. Haven't added any fixes to mine yet, but probably will do something. Until then, I just won't go up into the triple digits. Love my '98 Max!
