I found a part number for that weird rear turn signal bulb on the 2nd gen Venture, and, I suppose, the RSTD also.

7507

Also referred to as the BAU15s on this website:

You can see these bulbs down near the bottom of the page.

They also have LED replacements, if you want to actually DO that.

I got the impression during my searches that this bulb is used in some European cars, like the BMW and the Porsche. How it ended up in our bikes is anybodys guess, maybe the Japanese designers got a helluva deal on the bulbs and sockets.

Someone somewhere has asked if there were any bulb numbers for this bike, and this was the only one I didnt have till now.

Hope this is of some use.

This bulb (and the py21w) is correct for the rear, but you can also just buy a standard 1156 and remove one of the pins (most will just pop off with a knife blade, or you can file it or rub it on concrete). They will work perfectly.

As for the front, the newer RSVs use a strange 3-pin bulb, so the 7225/BAZ15d is not correct (only has two pins, just like the bulb above). It is possible that it may work, but I cannot say for sure - the pins may be reversed, or the filaments might be reversed. HOWEVER, no need to experiment with them, just buy a standard 1157 and remove the lower pin! The remaining high pin is indexed correctly to install the bulb with the correct filament connections (low for running light, bright for turn), and it will stay in place forever. :080402gudl_prv:

Yeah, hey thanks again Goose...I was just responding to a post asking what the actual bulb numbers were, not saying that another bulb wouldnt be a better and cheaper option.

I like your answer to the weird front bulb pin arrangement...that lets us just go to Autozone or Wal-Mart and get a bulb that will work.

You should write up a 'helpful hints' manual, maybe a few pages long, or folding and laminated like a map, of all this kinda stuff regarding our bikes, and print it and sell it. Things like oil and fluid quantities, grades, filter cross references, bulb fixes, tire subs, bolt sizes and SAE subs if any, torque values, recommended tie-down points, things like that.

I'd buy one to carry on the bike, so when I'm nowhere near a computer, or a dealer, I can pull it out and look it over for info when I'm on the road, and might be needing service at Joes Bike Shop and Chainsaw Repair.

You wont get rich, but you will have your handiwork riding with lots of Venture riders!

Has anybody put a 2357 in the front turn signal housings? I was wondering if it changed the blink rate much.

The 2357 has the same pin out as the 1157, but more light output, so it also requires more power input.

From data Inside the turn housing, the PY21W (aka 7507) turn signal bulb, puts out 24/2.2 CP while the 2357 is rated at 40/3 CP. A 66% increase in light output!!!!! on the bright filament and a 36% increase in the running lamp output!!!!!!! NICE!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night I purchased a pair of the 2357 LL (Long Life) bulbs at the local parts store and put in the tail lamp. NICE upgrade in light for only a few cents... It has a rated life of 2,000 hours on the bright filament and 10,000 hours on the dim flament.

I will knock off the pin as described above and test it in my front turn signal.....

Thanks for the tip!!!!

Off to the auto parts store for me.

Also to check if I can put 2357's in the rear turn signals.....Light up both filiments when turning.

Damn...I gotta get out more often...

"Yes, ma'am, I'll take a bottle of Jack, some Parrot Bay rum, a 12 pack of Coors lite, and two 1157 bulbs."

This page has LED turn signals including the three pin base type. I got a set of three pin EclipzeLEDs for the front, and the standard LEDs for the rears. They fit well and look good.

DOH.....

I forgot that the turn signal bulbs are amber.....DOH!!!!

Either get a pair of amber bulbs, or amber lenses...problem solved.

The bulbs are at any auto parts store.

Buy one 2357LL for the tail/stop lam and four 2357A bulbs for the turn signals.

Lots of light on the cheep.........

I can help you install them if you want, just pop over to SquidAcres some evening or Saturday...

We can swap stories. Maybe go for some BBQ.
