Midrsv Posted July 10, 2014 #1 Posted July 10, 2014 I just received a new Drift HD camera to use on my upcoming trip west. I bought a RAM suction cup mount to mount it on the front of the GW fairing hoping to minimize vibrations. Here is a link to a short video I shot a few miles from my house. First I mounted the camera on the front facing forward. Made a couple of passes that way. Then I moved it to the side of the saddle bag facing rear. The tie strap I had on the mount as a safety measure seemed to get in the way on that run. I'll remember that in the future. The camera has a near fish-eye lens so it is very susceptible lens flare. Also, I found after I finished this that there was a big smudge on the lens which made this video soft. Another lesson learned. Clean the lens before starting. Anyway, here's a 10 minute or so video. I had to replace the audio with music because the wind noise was terrible. I've got an external mic that I'll be using as soon as a get the appropriate adapter. I'm going to use the camera on a trip to Taos, NM and up through Durango, Telluride and Montrose. http://www.traynorphoto.com/palisades.mp4 Dennis
KIC Posted July 10, 2014 #2 Posted July 10, 2014 Cool toy. Looks like fun. Great music choices. Just think how much clearer and faster it would have been if you were riding a 1st Gen. ( Just saying...)
Stealthblade Posted July 10, 2014 #3 Posted July 10, 2014 I can almost smell the air out there. Very nice video, thanks for posting.
Snaggletooth Posted July 11, 2014 #4 Posted July 11, 2014 Two things I might mention if its a drift 170. In the directions it mentions the disconect procedure to remove the power cord while charging. Be sure to power it down before removing that cord. If you dont it may well fry the display screen. The camera will still function but the display screen will go a bright white with no display of functions. Kinda hard to make adjustments. Also......to protect that fisheye lens check out the ragecam.com site for a protective lens sleeve for the 170. Saved my lens a couple of times now. I like my drift but it does have a couple weak spots.
Midrsv Posted July 11, 2014 Author #5 Posted July 11, 2014 Mine is the Drift HD. Thanks the heads up on the power cord issue. Dennis
