Head set please advise

I currently have 2 Sena intercoms from my past bike. Just having purchased a 2013 rvs, I M not sure what brand or device direct connect intercom to purchase for my wife and I. I like reasonable sound quality and want to utilize the CB. The Sena works well as does the blue tooth. I just want a pair that is connected to the bike. Any suggestions on brands and options? J&M is the stock set up. They work ok, but I have gone through 3 patch cords in the last 3 years. Sound quality sucked until we installed mic mutes. They eliminate the noise from the wind on the open mic's. The CB's on these bike are not the best, due to very short range. Some people have had better luck with the range then other. Seems to be hit and miss.

I have the Sena headsets also and have been trying to wire up the SR10 to the 5 pin. I get an echo, but can listen to and talk on the CB as well as BT to the phone and intercom. If I ever get the echo to go away I'd be really happy.

We are looking at the Sena 10 headsets. Maybe over the winter we will get them. They seem to get good reviews. I only need bluetooth to the phone and each other. My son-in-law bought the Sena 20 but the are not in yet. Seems they were backordered.

If you go with the Sena, give some thought to the SMH10R. They are low profile and have a separate battery that can be replaced if it goes bad. The low profile has kept me from getting hung up on my jacket. Fairly easy to learn to use.

I got J&M basic set when purchased a bike used. It was OK but nothing special. I've upgraded it to Edsets system and I believe it's better. Feels like a high quality, cables look durable, connections click when connected, waterproof, you can take mic off when not using. However, I was expecting more bass response and....no, not really. I guess you can't get more bass with factory stereo on Venture and small helmet speakers, no matter the quality. It's still a nice set, though. Another thing - if something goes wrong you can buy separate cables, mic, headphones, etc..... Ed is a great guy to work with, always ready to provide any info.

Sm10 streams simultaneously to both helmets, so we share music

Bluetooth intercom.

My phone connects to my headset

Her phone connects to her headset

Copilot GPS app on my phone works through phone link.

No headset cables flapping in the wind.

Disadvantages:

A little pricy to get going but not much more than 2 Yamaha headsets and it appears to work flawlessly

CB radio unavailable: don't care - I've never used it.

 

Side effect: all the links work whether my wife in on my back seat or her own front seat as long as we're within about 1km.

 

Really liking this lash up.

They have good service as well

 

I WOULD NOT RECOMEND IMC.....

Yes Cagie, that is the set I was looking at. Just saving up for them. My son-in-law got the 20smh or whatever model number because it talks further and does 8 or 10 pairs. Not that important to me.

I bought the entry level J&M. not great but they work. I have had to install inline mic mutes kind of things to keep the wind and background noise from driving me nuts. The swoosh driving along for 2-3hr at a time is deafening. I built a cable that allows me to use earbuds and that greatly improved the sound of the overall radio/CD and aux input stuff. It also knocks out a lot of the wind noise going by and helps hear what your rider is saying. Mic is OK. I think I have turned on the CB once in the 3yr or so I had the bike. Dont seem to have very good range. When I heard a trucker on the radio and he said what mile marker he was at it was only a couple miles up the road. I got mine off e-bay from wing stuff I think and they were in the $80 ish range at the time.

He built a harness for me to connect my Scala-Rider headset to the Yamaha factory system. This was a test as he had already engineered a Sena hookup for the Honda Goldwing and sold the idea to Sierra Electronics. Sena would be a better candidate for this than Scala. I spoke to them on the phone and Sierra will have a harness built if you request it.

 

Requires a headset for the bike. You have to turn the bike intercom as low as it will go and just utilize the Wireless for Intercom and Phone. The Bike wireless will transmit the Radio and MP3 and CB to the rider headset.

You built a headset cable? I'm all ears.

I have the J&M headset built into my helmet with the 5 pin connection to the stock 1st gen audio system.

 

I'd appreciate any suggestions you have as to how I can use my earbuds instead of my speakers in the helmet. Want to retain all the capabilities I now have but need better wind isolation.

EdSets have an option to hook up earbuds instead of the speakers. It's already on the set, no need to change anything... I didn't try it yet but I will try it soon, hoping it will help with wind buffeting noise....

I think you will like it. I completely removed the speakers from our helmets and we use the earbuds with our Edsets. Fantastic.

We Erin our EdSets the same way. Much, much better. Also blocks out additional noise. Allows us to run the sets at very low intercom (IC) and low radio/satellite radio volume.

 

Worth the cost for this sets.
