So is there a one place I can go for a carb rebuild kit for my 83.5 XVZ12DKC2. I'm also looking for kits for my 85 XVZ12DN. If there's not 1 place could you post the places I have to go?

The common "rebuild kit" parts are gaskets/O-rings as well as float valve seat and needle. These particular parts are usually in a kit. The kit will suffice for all First Gen carbs, irrespective of year. George has the best price for these kits: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1x-86-07-VMAX-CARB-KIT-VMX1200-V-MAX-83-93-XVZ13-VENTURE-VENTURE-ROYALE-/191236302711?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AVmax+1200&hash=item2c86926777&vxp=mtr

If, you are in need of jets, then that is a different story. Jets varied over the years/models.

So even though George's eBay page says the kits won't fit my 83 or 85 they will?

So jets have a number on them? Car carbs usually do or you get a drill bit and find the closet fit correct? Then after you figure that out you go on the Internet looking for jets for Mikuni carbs?

Yes, most of the jets in the Venture (Mikuni) carbs have embossed numbers. But, Mikuni jets are not labeled with the jet opening diameter. The number on a Mikuni jet reflects flow capability, not diameter.

It is unlikely that you would need to replace the jets, unless someone has tampered and/or messed with them. The one possible exception MIGHT be a totally un-cleanable pilot jet.

The Service Manual has all the jets and their sizes listed, if you need to replace them.

In the Service Manual I see a list for the XVZ12TK model, but no other M/N s are shown, does this list cover ALL XVZ12s? I have a XVZ12DKC2.

I found a vendor in Cleveland that says he has all the jets I need (then why do I have to open the carb to get the numbers for him?) but I have to check the numbers before he can send me the "right" ones....

I found the jet sizes in the PARTS catalog; but only the specs in the SERVICE manual as stated in my prev. post. You better have very young eyes looking at those numbers on the jets....

Careful, sometimes the numbers are not all there.

That's a BIG 10-4 good buddy! Even if they ARE there have fun reading them!

I got 4 out of the carb, (1985 model DN) I see there are 8 jests; I don't see how the other 4 come out, do they NOT come out?

Which four have you removed?

IMHO, there is a need to remove just two jets (main jet and pilot jet), plus the main bleed pipe and the pilot screw.

The rest of the jets are air jets (pilot air jet #1, pilot air jet #2, main air jet, purge jet #1, purge jet #2). The air jets have never had fuel in them, thus are not going to be gummed up. A shot of spray carb cleaner through the air jets should suffice.

The needle jet passes fuel/air mixture, but the jet orifice is so large as to rarely require cleaning.

You may find that the two rubber plugs fitted into the jet block require replacement. Often the rubber ages and becomes non-compliant (hard) and some shrinkage.

Some say the same about me....I don't know what one is supposed to do about numbers that aren't stamped on the jets...find an "expert" that has a calibrated eye ball that can tell you what size it is? Testing one jet after another is not my idea of a good time....

Probably the biggest PITA is the air mixture screw. It's stuck in behind a plug just under the diaphragm cover and is most likely a hard one to remove. Some say to leave them be, but I find that cleaning and setting them properly is helpful. Be careful upon removal, take your time, and you'll find a the needle, a very small o-ring and a super small washer in there along with a spring,,, so don't go loosing any, they're hard to find.
