trying to place the small end of the shaft in place:

I have spent all day trying to align the small end of the shaft in place, can anyone give me direction on how to do this, I tried the wire with no luck, this is a real pain.

Make sure the transmission is in gear. If it is in neutral you will have a much harder time getting it in.
