Mad Dog Posted July 6, 2014 #1 Posted July 6, 2014 The reviews look OK on iTunes... Does anyone here use this? I might be riding the from RI to SC and I might be looking for an app that will allow me to plan a route and set waypoints. TIA
hbrockett Posted July 6, 2014 #2 Posted July 6, 2014 I use an android app called Road Warrior. I've had great luck with it. I don't know if there is an iphone version or not. It will let you plan a route with waypoints then optimize your route.
Mad Dog Posted July 6, 2014 Author #3 Posted July 6, 2014 Thanks, I will check it out. I forgot to mention that I would like to be able to download a route from Google Maps for example - with waypoints etc, and have the app follow that route. There are some that will display a pre-loaded route, but I haven't found one that will direct me back if I take a detour.... a live GPS with the destination and waypoints preloaded... Thanks
dacheedah Posted July 6, 2014 #4 Posted July 6, 2014 I use gpx drive on my iphone, i put my points ahead of time if known. Follow the gps, it will send you off your planned path and around stopped traffic or construction zones. If you take a detour it will reroute you. I use pandora for music and use the aux input. works sweet.
Wizard765 Posted July 6, 2014 #5 Posted July 6, 2014 Yes I have that app on my iphone and it is fantastic. Like having a full blown GPS built into your phone.. turn by turn directions with street names and free updates to the software as well as the maps... Works even if you turn off your data... It does take up a little over a Gig of space on your phone though because it downloads all of North America.. About a year ago I got a free update on mine and now when I choose the kind of route I want to take to my destination I have another choice besides "fastest" or "shortest" etc.. the other choice is "Windiest Roads" and then you choose high or middle or low.. Amazing.. Only drawback is it is not bright enough for sunny days.. but you can hear it.. I use a Zumo on the bike but use this app in the car or van all the time..
djh3 Posted July 6, 2014 #6 Posted July 6, 2014 SO you are able to run the GPS and play pandora at the same time?. Depending on what kind og holder you have for your phone here is wat a member here suggested to me for my Garmin. You take a 3x5 index card plastic box from office supply store. About $3 and cut the top off. then take the bottom and trim it so it will fit around your device and attach it to the mount like RAM mounts on the back side.
Wizard765 Posted July 6, 2014 #7 Posted July 6, 2014 Yes you can use Pandora at the same time or answer the phone or use the built in mp3 player etc.. The shadow box is a good idea..
