Wizard765 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 My 2nd gen came with heated grips and I want to put the Kuryakyn grips on that I purchased.. I know getting the left grip off is a piece of cake by just twisting hard.. The right side is another matter. Don't want to put undo stress on the throttle cables so looking for a way to get the old grip off. They are not stock and they don't have a removable end. I'm starting to think I may have to cut them off.. Any Ideas from the brain trust?
Pegasus1300 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Pictures of what you have would help a lot. Do you have bar end weights that came on bike originally?
MiCarl Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I haven't had to remove any heated grips but have found that with conventional grips compressed air works wonders. It breaks the adhesive, stretches the grip and provides a cushion of air to float the grip off (think air hockey).
Wizard765 Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 I'll see if I can get a picture to post.. hmmm air There are no end weights right now and the ends are a chrome dome with no screws or seams.. If I was going to use air... how would I do that? Do I dismantle the throttle assembly and take the whole unit off the bar?

Often times I can cram the nozzle between the end of the grip and the switch cluster. On the clutch side you can remove the switch cluster and get right under the grip if you need to. Never had to do anything like that on the throttle side.
