Reminds me of our trip through the Palo Dura canyon. Did I spell that right? If you recall my first gen made it across that river alright. You may be convincing me that a Ural is the way to go on my next bike purchase.

Pretty close...its Palo Duro..and those watercrossings are paved and only a few inches of water...although the thin film of river mud underneath can be very slick.... And next time you make it out this way...you might want to check out the new Palo Duro Zipline! [ame] [/ame]

That would have put the water level at about the height of the tops of the Venture's heads...and the motor and driveline would have ingested lots of dirty muddy water...running water that high will knock a bike over and carry some cars right over the side... When the mufflers get submerged your bike will make an entirely different sound...ask me how I know. The splashing water at about 3 inch depth WILL get your boots and pant-legs VERY wet! There are flood gauges at each water crossing in the canyon...and the water crossings in Palo Duro are rarely more than 3 or 4 inches...except of course after a very heavy rain. But hey...if thats the way you wanna remember it... This short clip of my Ural passing thru one of them that was 'closed' shows about 4 to maybe 6 inches on the flood gauge... [ame] [/ame] When it gets up to 2 feet...they barricade the water crossing and nothing is allowed through. BTW...they are building some bridges in the canyon at some of the deeper crossings...I dont know what the date is for completion of those bridges. Edited July 4, 2014 by tx2sturgis
djh3 Posted July 4, 2014 #8 Posted July 4, 2014 Several years back the wife and I were in Gatlinburg Tn. We had come up from Cherokee and about half way it commenced to raining cats and dogs. We put rain gear on but stif were pretty wet. We got to Gatlinburg and looked for a place to get something hot to eat and dry out. The streets had so much water on them it was over the tops of my 10" boots and the bottoms of the mufflers I think. Thats when we found out there is no parking close to anything on main street in Gatlinburg. The streets looked like you could have had canoe races they had so much water running.
