CaptainJoe Posted July 3, 2014 #1 Posted July 3, 2014 Has anyone here tried these? http://www.polarproducts.com/polarshop/pc/Military-Phase-Change-Evaporative-Cooling-Vest-33p169.htm I'm going on two trips this summer, with temps projected to be in the 90's I would like to make it as comfortable a possible (riding a motorcycle to and from)... without breaking the bank (Veskimo type cooling systems are out) Polar products look like they might just be what I could use as i always have a cooler and ice on hand.
M61A1MECH Posted July 3, 2014 #2 Posted July 3, 2014 I have one, works well, better than an evaporation system especially here in Florida where the humidity is high. The packs stay cool for about one hour, which is about right for summer riding, I normally stop pretty often to get fresh cold water.

So much for the "lasts up to 4 hours speil"? lol Do you have the phase packs or the water based? If phase based, how long do they take to refreeze in icewater.
M61A1MECH Posted July 3, 2014 #4 Posted July 3, 2014 I am sure they could last UP TO FOUR HOURS under the right conditions, but not in 90+ weather riding 70 MPH here in Florida. I have the phase change packs, I never really paid attention to how long they take in ice water, I have two pairs, so I take one pair out of the vest and put them into the cooler and put the cold set in my vest and ride on, by the time I have to stop again they are always frozen solid. When I first got the vest I tried using all four packs at one time, but the two in the back were right on my kidneys and it was two much, made my back muscles start to spasm, so I now just run with two , one in each front pouch.

If you had it to do again would you still buy it? Here's the one I'm thinking on getting(figure a Hydration bladder full of Ice water would help keep me cool) http://www.polarproducts.com/polarshop/pc/Military-Phase-Change-Evaporative-Vest-with-Hydration-Bladder-33p171.htm
