Trader Posted June 30, 2014 #1 Posted June 30, 2014 I'm looking for a 1st Gen fold-able CB/am/fm antenna. I put an ugly stick on mine but ... (1) I don't like the look of it...to big and bulky looking (2) I have to slice my cover to be able to put it on the bike (3) It's so heavy it broke the mounting bracket off the rear carrier! I "discovered" it dragging behind the bike one afternoon.worn in places from road rash. So....if ANYONE know where I can get a stock am/fm/cb antenna that folds down at the bottom for a reasonable price, PLEASE let me know.
Prairiehammer Posted June 30, 2014 #2 Posted June 30, 2014 Sometimes there are a few on eBay. But usually not complete or OEM. I removed mine and replaced it with a Firestick with a folding base. Mine was missing the ball at the tip and I couldn't adjust the SWR because the tiny set screw on the load coil was frozen.
Pegasus1300 Posted June 30, 2014 #3 Posted June 30, 2014 Look in the tech section for a parts list and how to on the "Marshall mod". That will give foldable antennas
cimmer Posted June 30, 2014 #4 Posted June 30, 2014 If I recall correctly the stock Venture Royal antenna does fold down. I would have to check and see when I get back home but I recall folding it down when I had it on. I have since upgraded to the Marshall Mod and included the fold downs for that set up. I still have the stock antenna so I can check later in the week. Rick F.
Karaboo Posted July 1, 2014 #5 Posted July 1, 2014 Try this link from Sierra electronics. I got the replacement antenna for universal Japanese tourers and it is almost identical to OEM. Only $45. Works good on a first gen. http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=AO-GL12-ANT
cimmer Posted July 7, 2014 #6 Posted July 7, 2014 I checked my stock 89 Venture Royale antenna and it does fold down when you unscrew the chrome knurled barrel just about the black plastic base. Once unscrewed up just pull it up and there is a swivel inside that lets the antenna fold down. Here are some pictures of it.
zoey04 Posted July 7, 2014 #7 Posted July 7, 2014 hello my friend i have afew of them. have 2 86 royales which i have decided what to do with yet, so would be willing to part with one , do u also need bracket, if so short or long one. zoey04:whistling:
Trader Posted July 7, 2014 Author #8 Posted July 7, 2014 I need the complete antenae, folding base and if the support bracket is a bolt on, then I could use that too. Not sure if it is short or long but it is for my 88 VR and it has to be long enough to come out from under the side of the trunk box
