Hi all, I have a problem with my CB.

I have had my trunk off for awhile and I put it back on yesterday. After install I was checking to make sure everything worked and when I got to the CB I got a "CBer" on my display. When I first pushed the CB button the light on the display would come on and just for a half-second the CB channel would display and then I would get the error. I believe it has always done this but I've never used the CB so I was not concerned about it. Until, on the Alabama M&E I saw how handy it could be so now I'm wanting to get it fixed. Any Ideas?

I'd be inclined to say that the plug under the passenger seat has come loose to a certain extent. The connector on the left of the bike (when sitting on the bike) is the CB the one on the right of the bike is the audio to the rear pod. If that's the case, take the opportunity to clean the pins and put some dielectric grease on them before putting the connector back together.

I have started "Locking" my connectors, under the passenger seat with cable ties. I loop one around each end of the connector, not pulling them all the way tight. then I take 2 and put them together and put that through both of the loops and put it together and do the same thing with another 2 so I've got 2 180º around from each other. Then tighten the loops around the ends and then the long ones running the length of the connector and that should hold them together nice and tight.

Mine Does That Too...of Course The Stealer Put The Antena On The Wrong Side That May Have Been The Cause. My Cb/intercom Works For About Two Hours Then Shuts Down. Maybe It Is The Plugs, I'll Look. Thanks.

Speaking of antenas, what is the best repalcement antena for both CB and radio? I noticed the top part of the radio antena comes off but the CB looks like it is all one piece, wire included. Is this the case? Does the wires come with the replacement?

What do you mean by the top part of the Radio antenna?

Here is the best replacement antenna mod. Go down the page some for the 2nd Gen mod.

On the 99 the stock CB antenna will rotate but you have to pull up on the base to get it to come off.

The phenolic base (black part) of my CB antenna just fell apart one day so I had to go to something else

The connector, however, it crimped onto the wire and cutting the wire is the only way to get either of connectors off of the antenna brackets that screw to the bike.

The mod that SaltyDawg gave the link to is the best, easiest, mod out there. It really is straight forward and there should be enough cable on the AM/FM antenna to do the mod without using the long cable that is called for, but check yours first to make sure you won't need the extra cable. Total, the mod cost me, about $5 less, for both antennas and parts, than 1 OEM CB antenna was at the cheapest place I could find it. Lots sturdier than the OEMs as well.

Warning though...the modded antennas will not stand up to a garage door coming down, catching it and bending it...Don't ask me how I know...:whistling: :rotf:

Thanks Salty for the info.

When I say the top part I'm refering to the mast. It can be removed from the base, or at least the one on my '99 can. It does not look like the CB antena can come apart like the radio antena. I really would like to replace them but I kinda lost when it comes to electronics and such.:bang head:

Back to my original question, what could be causing the error when trying the CB?
