So my grandson and I are cruising along on tweeks,, just having some great guy time when all of a sudden a lady in a car that was stopped at a stopped at a stopped decides she couldnt wait any longer.. as she pulled out, mi caught her wheel movement and stopped and allowed her to proceed..

later my grandson, not old enough to drive yet, asked about what happened.. sitting with my daughter and him, I took some toys cars and a mptorcycle and recreated the scene.. demoing for him how to wheel watch and watch for shadow movement under cars.. he got to see the results first hand of the additional reaction time a driver gets by catching wheel movement and taking immediate evasive action.. one of the things I was having trouble getting across clearly is how a driver can check both ways and still not see a motorcycle approaching.. I was telling him about the computer generated circle deal that someone posted on here a while back and expainitory it was for understanding what we were talking about..

does anyone remember that thread or know where that site is?

Thanks in advance for helpin this ol grandpa out!

I posted this a while back and had it as a favorites. It was a MSF address, but I can't seem to find it at that address and the computer I had it on is locked up.

This is from Roadrunner magazine, but it is the same thing.

I just went back and looked at this and with this being an "excerpt", it does not allow you to change the ball size, color or speed.

Puc, another thing to explain to a kid about driving is to ask them what it means when a vehicle is coming at you with their signal light blinking. The normal response will be; "they are turning". The correct answer is; "No, it only means their signal light works."

I found the original post, but when I click on it, it brings up the MSF home page and I can not find the motion part.

Yah Randy, I found out at a young age to never trust turn signals!! Wait until they commit to the turn before you pull out!

Of course now days turn signals seem to be optional...

found out at age 21 that if a car in oncoming traffic attempts to pass within your 12 second zone, by the time you see their head lights coming at you ....its too late. Effective impact speed even if both are doing 55 is 110mph.

If you were inside ya missed a great sunset. Does 12212 ring a bell. :whistling: Wish we had someone to eat ice cream or a burger or both with????

Fortunately this is a myth.

But if a 2000 lb car and your 1000 lb bike meet each other going 55 the effective impact speed for the bike will be about 73 MPH. and the effective impact speed for the car would be about 37 MPH I doubt if there will be any difference in the outcome for the bike whether it feels 73 or 110 MPH impact.

Now if that other vehicle coming at you is a semi at 80,000 lbs then you will feel 109.999 MPH of impact.
