China radiator cover

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ordered one of these? Seems to be half the price of ones ordered from a United States address. Concerned about disclaimer that "There may be other import dues or fees when delivered!!!" :confused24:

From everything I see it was manufactured in the US and it ships from Michigan. Don't see any China on the listing. :confused07:

All I did was Quote bill4you's post. It changed it by itself. I had to copy the link location from the link posted in his first post and paste it into the address line to get it to take me to the correct link.

edit: Actually, I think bill4you changed the link in his original so now it's working to the correct post.

I don't have that one, but I do have the one made by Custom World International. Chromed Billet Aluminum with mounting hardware. Been on the bike for a number of years and still looks like the day I put in on. Quality product.. about $150 though.

I have had that same style cover on my bike for several years. It seems to me like it was cut out of stainless steel in the USA. It also cost me about $100. So it looks like a very good price if the steel is quality. After mounting on the bike I noticed the upper edges tended to vibrate against the radiator. This was easily fixed by gluing a little rubber pad under both upper corners. Various size stick on pads are available at the hardware store in the furniture hardware section.

Hey Mike....howya doin since your crash?

BTW, if the rad cover is Chinese made stainless steel, be sure to keep a good coat of wax on it because the iron imperfections will produce spot rusting. The wax minimizes the rust reaction.

Hey Pete

Doing pretty good I guess. The VA has decided they don't need to do anything with the broken bones. Even though one piece is turned sideways and jammed beneath the other. No setting no surgery or no anything. I am not so sure that isn't an economical decision as much as a medical one. But being the clavicle they may be right. It would help a lot if they weren't so tight on the pain medication. All that said I am very pleased to be up and about. And that something even more serious didn't happen. All I can say is always always wear a helmet.

I've had one laying here in the office that's aluminum for a couple of years now. I'm not a big fan of product advertising so I'll probably never use it. However, Stainless seems like it would be the better material??

I got exactly that in the mail yesterday, it took about 2 weeks to deliver. It seems ok, def not a great quality SS but for the price, I am not quibbling.

Now I gotta figure how to install as it comes with no instructions...

I also am not a big fan of free advertising for a big company like that either. Just me. Thats part of why I have a hard time understanding why all these HD folks just run rite out and buy all the stuff and pay to advertise for them.

Now if the Rad cover had some generic lightning bolts or geometric design I would be more inclined I think. But hey if you like it go for it. Worse thing could be the chrome starts to peel and you sand it and paint it. No biggie.

I am thinking about making a rad screen from some lath I think they call it. Sort of expanded metal looking stuff but it is very light weight and easy to cut. I have a piece cut and wraped the edge with some 1/4 plastic tube so there is not a sharp edge. just need to figure how I'm going to attach it.

When you get it figured out, let me know what it took. My kids gave me the China version for Father's Day and I will be installing it soon. I looked at the parts manual and it appears that it is a matter of removing the lower 2 bolts holding the radiator and perhaps pushing the grommets thru the holes in the cover and reassembling. I am sure it is more difficult than I make it sound.

The "China" one seems identical to the "American" listed ones and their(American) instructions are (Translated???):

"THIS PART INSTALLS FAIRLY EASILY. YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE THE SIDE SHROUDS ON EACH SIDE OF THE RADIATOR, REMOVE THE 2 BOLTS THAT HOLD YOUR RADIATOR ON, DROP THE RADIATOR DOWN AND SLIDE THE TOP TAB OVER THE PIN ON TOP OF THE RADIATOR. THEN PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER SLIDING THE SIDE TABS ON EACH OF SIDE OF THE RADIATOR AND SLIP THE TABS BETWEEN THE ONES THAT HOLD THE RADIATOR ON."

"GOOD LUCK, MATEY :whistling:"
