Eck Posted June 23, 2014 #1 Posted June 23, 2014 I don't like riding when its anywhere over 85 / 87 degrees. I dont find it enjoyable..
djh3 Posted June 23, 2014 #2 Posted June 23, 2014 Man, good thing you dont live here. You would only be able to ride like 3 months maybe......
uncledj Posted June 23, 2014 #4 Posted June 23, 2014 I can take the heat, but when it gets above the low / mid 90s I avoid rides that'll put me in stop n go traffic. When it's hot I wanna keep rollin' as much as possible.
Barrycuda Posted June 23, 2014 #5 Posted June 23, 2014 I get the least amount of time in the seat as well as miles covered in the premium summer months. When I do ride it's normally early or late PM. It's just too darn hot for mid day heat and humidity while in stop and go traffic . The IR should prove interesting...
djh3 Posted June 23, 2014 #6 Posted June 23, 2014 Wife and I took a ride up to Lakeland for some birthday shopping for granddaughter. Its about a 65 mile drive one way. We took mostly backroads up this am. Left around 9 and was low 80s. Still by 945 when got stopped in traffic up by there we were cooking. Coming home we dodged the afternoon pop up storms. Well sort of. just as we were ready to get off an expressway it got us a little, but if was nice and cool for about 20 min. I think 2 of the hottest places I have ever rode a bike besides when I was stationed in Southwest Ok were Charleston SC in July and Savanna just about anytime between March and Nov.
Eck Posted June 23, 2014 Author #7 Posted June 23, 2014 How did you ever ride in Charleston? Rode to work at 4am... real cool then, and rode back home around 3:30pm and it was HOT....Luckily I lived on Daniel Island which was like 12 miles from the Boeing plant. What I hated more in Charleston was all the smoke when they burn the overgrowth in the forests .. Man that smoke about killed me with my emphysema. I held my breath as long as I could and then would take a slow long intake breath as I held my shirt to my mouth, and then hold it again... And in response to being glad I don't live in FL... HECK NO..I wont ever live in FL. I cant stand that hot heat. When I go down to Sarasota to see my mom (once a year) I stay inside and we argue over the inside temp. My mom likes it around 80 degrees inside. I want it like 73/74 degrees inside. So we settled it by setting it at 77. For years I would leave and stay in a motel while down there because I could not stand the heat inside her place or outside.
Venturous Randy Posted June 23, 2014 #9 Posted June 23, 2014 Too Hot.....RIDE NAKED!!! :cool10: Eck, anytime you want some cool riding, come on up. I can be at over 6,000 feet in about a half hour. If it is hot up there, it is really going to be hot where you are. You know that you are welcome anytime. RandyA
CaptainJoe Posted June 23, 2014 #10 Posted June 23, 2014 Eck, Baggershield and Baker Airwings. Being hot natured myself found these to be a huge improvement. Another thing to do is wear a White, moisture wicking, long sleeve shirt. They even sell them in dress shirts now. DO NOT wear black! I literally roast in anything other than white. Also, like my light colored blue jeans. Thinking about getting some diamond gussets? The key is to get the flow of air going, and keeping the direct sun off of your skin....
bongobobny Posted June 23, 2014 #11 Posted June 23, 2014 From what I remember from previous threads, it was around 92 degrees that the "feels like" temperature when riding starts to be hotter than the temperature actually is...
djh3 Posted June 23, 2014 #12 Posted June 23, 2014 The wife and I got a couple wicking long sleeve shirts in a neon green in teh sports wear section or K-mart I think. they are light and do a good job. Helps you be seen also.

If it is hot up there, it is really going to be hot where you are. You know that you are welcome anytime. Ride naked. Yea right. Heck I get sun burnt fast. Especially in most of those often covered places. You are welcome down here anytime too. [QUOTE=CaptainJoe;845301]Eck, Baggershield and Baker Airwings. Already have the uppers and lowers and under the mirrors. When its hot all they do is channel the hot air at you. Makes it worse if you ask me. The key is to get the flow of air going, and keeping the direct sun off of your skin The key is not to ride when it is hot..ha From what I remember from previous threads, it was around 92 degrees that the "feels like" temperature when riding starts to be hotter than the temperature actually is... When I cant breathe normally I can tell it is hot. The wife and I got a couple wicking long sleeve shirts in a neon green in teh sports wear section or K-mart I think. they are light and do a good job. Helps you be seen also. I have orange and yellow wicking wear and it does help, to a point, but then like I mentioned, if I cant breathe, its just to darn hot and I am not enjoying the ride so I get off the bike.
Flyinfool Posted June 23, 2014 #14 Posted June 23, 2014 I went for a nice comfortable ride this weekend. It was 58°F in the morning when I left the house and the high for the day was 68°F. That makes for some really nice riding weather. Now it is our turn to pick on you southerners :rasberry: :stirthepot:

Skid Posted June 23, 2014 #16 Posted June 23, 2014 I like the arm weather, just wish it would stay like this year round...
cowpuc Posted June 24, 2014 #17 Posted June 24, 2014 Personally I am with randy on this one,, the riding naked thingy is a whole lot more fun for me than having all that snowmobile gear on.. 114 degrees is about where the real discomfort begins as far as heat goes, unless we are talking in the humid climates, than 105 is my limit.. one of my favorite rides of all times was death valley,,,, 106 degrees at night, full moon, pull the headlight fuse so you can see where your going and whats around you,, TOTALLY UNREAL! Eck,, we woke to our bike covered in ice a few mornings ago and mt shasta had a brand new covering of snow! I can handle the heat farrrrrr better than the cold but yea, there gotta be limits on both ends dont there..
star4772 Posted June 24, 2014 #18 Posted June 24, 2014 I don't like riding when its anywhere over 85 / 87 degrees. I dont find it enjoyable.. That's good riding weather, you should be here in AZ been 100+ last few days.
Motorcycle Mike Posted June 24, 2014 #19 Posted June 24, 2014 I carry the drinking water in my cup holder, Shirley carries a squirt bottle full of water in hers and keeps us both sprayed down. Staying hydrated and wet makes just about any temp bearable.
speakerfritz Posted June 24, 2014 #20 Posted June 24, 2014 when it gets that hot i become the night rider
