Rick Haywood Posted June 19, 2014 #1 Posted June 19, 2014 Have the rear wheel off to put on a new tire so figured I would change the rear end gear oil. As I was draining the oil I noticed the chrome cap on top of the rear end is gone I figured all along this was a vent cap but now that it is missing I don't see how it is suppose to vent looking for some answers an if you know if I can replace it or shouod i not worry about it:confused24:
slowrollwv Posted June 19, 2014 #2 Posted June 19, 2014 Rick I haven't paid much attention to it but if dirt can't get in and the oil can't get out, don't worry about the chrome cap, you can't see it from the seat.:rotf:
VentureYZ Posted June 20, 2014 #3 Posted June 20, 2014 Just put a new one on my V-max pumpkin. All it is, is a tube with an umbrella welded on it. It has a small hole drilled in the top edge of the tube for the vent. Still available from Yamaha. Mike

Yours might be pointing toward the wheel. It's best to replace it. The part you're missing is to keep dirt and water out.
