XV1100SE Posted June 18, 2014 #1 Posted June 18, 2014 Rather than having a relay for each circuit (passing lights, gps, horns)... would having a relay before a fuse block feeding these circuits work?
Atoolnut Posted June 18, 2014 #2 Posted June 18, 2014 This is what I used to power all added accessories... http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Wiring_Kits/Fuseboxes/PC-8/Installation/installation.html....another local supplier..in Newmarket.... http://www.freethrottle.com/fr/23-fuse-blocks
bongobobny Posted June 18, 2014 #3 Posted June 18, 2014 Aah!! So THAT'S why you ordered the fuse blocks!! It should work EXCEPT the 5A fuse to ground!! It will blow immediately!! 12 volts to ground will be a short!! I am ass u me ing you are switching the 12 volts to the passing lights, the GPS straight wired, and the air horn being switched to ground via the horn switch. Big problem with the horn, too much current passing thru the horn switch. Better try again Don...
djh3 Posted June 18, 2014 #4 Posted June 18, 2014 I got tired of trying to run power wires under the positive cable. I saw a write up on a Kawasaki site and I think one here where the fellow added an aux fuse block. I found one I think its 6 position so I have places to add circuits for say lights, accessories without adding wires under the positive on the battery and having wires willy nilly.

I wouldn't ground out power.

I did the exact same thing on this RSV as well as my previous 06 RSV.
XV1100SE Posted June 18, 2014 Author #7 Posted June 18, 2014 I currently have a 6 fuse block but have relays for lights/horns, etc between the fuse block and the device. What I was hoping to do was eliminate a few relays. I know I'll still need relays for the horns... but I figure if I have two 4x fuse blocks that are switched power rather than always hot I could eliminate some wiring.
RedRider Posted June 18, 2014 #8 Posted June 18, 2014 Yup, there are lots of nice fuse blocks out there. I have a Centech AR-1 on the Venture. Full up too - need to add another one or quick adding electrical stuff. The KLR has a Fuzeblok FZ-1. That is a really nice fuse block as it allows you to have each circuit either switched or not. RR
Wizard765 Posted June 18, 2014 #9 Posted June 18, 2014 Don: I think it will work as long as the total amp draw of the fuse block isn't greater than the relay is rated for. This is assuming you want your passing lights on all the time.. The horn cannot be in this block though. It needs it's own circuit. So for anything that is on all the time that the bike is on this will work.
paysaw Posted June 18, 2014 #10 Posted June 18, 2014 I am not sure how good you are with relays. What I have done is bought the mini relays and mounted them in a little box and and wired it with terminals.I could get 4 min relays in a small box.I could wire, or change the relay's path .I labeled in and out and the current rating. It made for fast wiring.
djh3 Posted June 18, 2014 #11 Posted June 18, 2014 I should think horn and passing lights on seperate relay. Maybe heated gear if you use that stuff. Anything else should be able to run off your rig there. I dont think a phone, MP3 etc would tax the circuit @ 30 amp relay.
speakerfritz Posted June 18, 2014 #12 Posted June 18, 2014 you can put a fuse block on 1 relay.....but if you do...I would get a fuse block that has the surge devices (ebay easy hook up 12 volt control - 2 relays with surge and high voltage protection). Also, your picture shows a ground connection on a fuse. not sure why you would want to do that ...if the fuse blows...an associated device might wind up being the circut ground.

XV1100SE Posted June 18, 2014 Author #14 Posted June 18, 2014 On second thought....this won't work the way I was thinking. I'd still need separate relays for the (3) horns and passing light. I currently have a 6 gang fuse block fed from battery on a 30A fuse and can't have the horns/passing lights on the same block or it blows the 30A fuse (20A for ea horn (3), 20A for passing lights, 5A for GPS). With two horns on the same fuse block as the passing lights it is okay, but having 3 horns blows the fuse. That is why I'm taking out the 6 gang block and going to two 4 gang blocks. Thanks for the input !
