KIC Posted June 16, 2014 #1 Posted June 16, 2014 The newest device to rip us off.. https://www.youtube.com/embed/l7OadDz3Ums .
Eck Posted June 16, 2014 #2 Posted June 16, 2014 Seen this video last year when I was in MS. I don't think they found out yet what it is that they use...
MiCarl Posted June 16, 2014 #4 Posted June 16, 2014 I wonder how many unique codes the key fobs really have. It might be as simple as having the box transmit a couple hundred and the door unlocks. I protect myself by having nothing worth stealing......
Flyinfool Posted June 17, 2014 #5 Posted June 17, 2014 It is most likely that they are not going thru the key fob. more likely they are hacking right into the computer.
baylensman Posted June 17, 2014 #6 Posted June 17, 2014 New cars do not actually have the old pin and tumbler connected via rod to the latch. The pin and tumbler sends an RF to the unlock module. To keep it simple the RF is short, and not encrypted. The car MFGS are aware of this. Starting the vehicle on the other hand require the fob and a very secure and unique code.
Marcarl Posted June 17, 2014 #7 Posted June 17, 2014 Best get a Saab,,, leave the keys in it,,, they can't find the keys even if they got so far as wanting to.
spke Posted June 17, 2014 #8 Posted June 17, 2014 The steering column on my wifes Saab has scratches on the right side from me trying to put the key in the non-existent ignition switch. Takes me a min to go "oh yeah, dummy". sp!ke
Eck Posted June 17, 2014 #9 Posted June 17, 2014 They probably use the same type system that On-Star uses to unlock your car, just a hand held unit..
Prairiehammer Posted June 17, 2014 #10 Posted June 17, 2014 Best get a Saab,,, leave the keys in it,,, they can't find the keys even if they got so far as wanting to. Yeah, that was the common joke back when I bought my '78 SAAB 99 Turbo. It took my (then) fiancee about 10 minutes to find the ignition switch the first time I tossed her the keys and told her to start the car. I just watched...from the nice warm house. No thief would spend that much time trying to steal a SAAB.
